I was asked to watch the first battle of the new gym leader of cinnabar Island, along with misty, erika, and lance, who is representing the elite 4. From what i heard, she specializes in dark types, so clearly, the league wants to normalize the newer type discoveries in the region.   A lot has changed over the past 6 years. Blane retired, gary Oak is the new virudian city gym leader. Brock got married to Professor Ivy, and Misty came out as bisexual. Professor oka retired from his work only for his granddaughter Daisy to take over. I am snapped out of my thoughts by my dearest friend haunter, a pokemon i was introduced to by ash Ketchum years ago. Haunter doesn't join me in gym fights, but win or lose, he is still by my side. Many gym leaders have begun keeping the pokemon they have the strongest attachment to close by them. I look at Misty, who is petting her togekiss affectionately. To think that monster was just a small egg a while ago. I. Sbapped out of my thoughts, when a gothic dressed girl walks in beside an absol, she pets absols head as he gazes into her eyes. I can faintly hear what is being said by the new gym leader. "I know, absol, domt worry, im not scared. And i appreciate it." It almost sounds like....hmm, i will need to speak to her later on. Their first challenger comes in, its chuck from johto. A gym leader with a type advantage to the new gymleader is often the first match to test their ability at a disadvantage. I imagine bugsy will be next as she specifically requested that. Chuck uses his conkledur to start. I must say he has really lost weight over the years. Eclypse sends in her absol. Interesting choice. Conkldur goes for a fake out only to be avoided by the smaller dark pokemon who sets up a sword dance. "Im sorry, absol. i promise this is your only match today. " Eclypse says. Absol seems to understand that conkledur grunts at it. Thanks to my psychic powers, i can tell it is mocking absol internally for having a "stupid trainer." i dont think that's the case. Conkldur stands still, i imagine preparing vital throw to which i can visualy tell eclypse predicted as vital throw doesn't miss easily, absol charges in using psycho cut. It's very clearly a critical hit as the force of the attack forces the larger fighting type sliding back several feet, and before it can grab absol, the dark type has already bounded out of range. They are clearly prepared for this possibility. "Absol. Come back." She recalls and pulls out a moon ball. "Absol light the dark!" A second absol comes out of the ball, i can't tell what it's thinking due to my powers being ineffective on dark types, and even with alakazams help, I still haven't been able to perform the miracle eye move yet. "That's not an absol," misty comments. "What do you mean? I ask. "Eclypse apologized because most absol dont like to fight. They like it even less when they mega evolve. That "absol" seems almost....desperate to get into the fight." She comments, and now that she has mentioned it, she's right, this second absol is tense, every limb waiting for eclypse order to attack. "Calm yourself." Eclypse ordered sternly. "We aren't barbarians. What do we do?" She says to the second absol, who frowns and looks down before growling back. "Interesting, she can talk to her pokemon." Lance deduced. "I noticed that as well." I comment. The conkldur frowns using bulk up. "Burning jealousy." Orders eclypse and the "absol" charges jealousy in its eyes as it jumps overhead, letting out a plume of flames before landing behind conkldur who suffers a bad burn. Chuck switches conkledur for hitmanchan and orders a mach punch, which connects revealing the second absol was actually a zoroark who survived thanks to a focus sash. Despite Chuck continuously trying to get a foot hold, eclypse seems to have an answer planned, the only pokemon of hers fainting being zoarak to a second mach punch later on. The next match with bugsy is much closer. Bith her grimmsnarl and mandibuz and zoaroal again fainting in this round while bugsy lost his entire team of four. The last match would be against blane. The former gym leader must have a final match with the successor. That's howbit has been for years. The only exception is giovanni and gary due to the formers' team rocket ties. The match begins with blane using arcanine and eclypse leading with krookadile. Its again very back and forth, and before long, they are both down to one pokemon each. "Sorry, absol. He's REALLY good." She apologized, but absol smiled and nuzzled her as it walked onto the field. Blane sent out his last pokemon, who looked as old as he did. A ninetails. "Give me a good final fight," i read the nintails' thoughts. I imagine absol understood as it looked more serious this time. The battle is close to both pokemon, giving everything they have as the trainers are right on the field with them, metaphorically speaking. Neither pokemon is hitting a full attack on the other and only grazing with what does land. "Your bond with absol is strong. I respect that. Ninetails was my first pokemon back when it was a vulpix. Only right i leave my partner to test ypurs in the end." Blane said heavily, leaning on his cane. "Absol. Im not sure how much longer blane can physically stand. One way or another battle needs to end definitively." Absol nodded at eclypse words and closed its eyes, taking a deep breath speaking to nintails who seemed to nod. They came nose to nose and walked away from each other twenty paces. "A stand-off?" Misty asked. "Nope." Came the former teamrocket mascot meowth who now works for the league as a translator in important events. "Absol and ninetails basically agreed on one final attack each. That will decide the battle." We nodded as meowth continued. "I didn't translate for most of the matches cause nothing really important was bein said." He explained. Absol charged with a nightslash and ninetails launched fireblast when suddenly absol charged into the fireblast, taking it full force to only ignore nintails and catch blane whose legs had given out underhim. Before i knew it, we were there helping blane into a chair. "Absol could hardly stand, but it was determined to hold blame till we got there. "Im sorry about that girl. My old body can't keep up." He apologized. "Nonsense. You may have aged, but you have no reason to apologize. Far as i see it, this was a battle worth being proud of." She pointed to absol, who was only standing thanks to the help of meowth and ninetails. "I am gifted with the ability to understand my pokemons' speech. Even if you hadn't begun to fall absol admitted, there was no escaping that attack. It would have been a matter if absol could put up enough of a counter blow to do more damage to nintails, but considering the burn, i doubt it." Blane smiled. "Hear that old friend? We still got it." He smiled before coughing as he was carted out of the arena. "You and absol planned to throw that last battle, didn't you." Lance commented. "Elcypse smiled as she began treating absol and ninetails chased after her trainer. "That obvious?" She asked. "Not even remotely until the end," Misty said. "It didn't feel right for it to end any other way." Eclypse admitted. "Absol agreed." With that, she was initiated as the new gym leader, but i get the feeling there is a lot more in-store for this young girl.
