"The Princes' Vigil refers to the occasions when members of the British royal family "stood guard" during the funeral of one of their family members, during or as part of a state funeral or British ceremonial. This first happened with King George V in with King Edward VII Prince George Duke of Kent Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester and Prince George Duke of Kent in 1936. With Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 2002, and with Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. Before 2022, only the male members of the British royal family took part in the vigil.
