I woke up at 11 pm. I sit up in bed. I rub my eyes and get out of my bed. I start to walk toward my door but when I touch the doorknob I hear my mommies screams. I jump back from my door and run back to my bed and hide under it. I close my eyes and start praying to any god that will listen to help me and to protect me. And that god was Ares… The god of war.

I didn't know when I fell asleep but I did when I awoke. I was at the end of my driveway and in front of me was a burned down house… my house. When I sat up, the blanket that was wrapped around me fell onto my lap. “What happened?” I ask to no one. “Your family was attacked by someone your father angered.” someone says behind me. I turn around and see a man dawning armor that looked straight out of the museum exhibit about Ancient Greece with long tendrils of hair that looked black in the moonlight sticking out from his helmet that shadowed his face and made him seem terrifying. He pushed some of the hair back into the helmet. “W-Who are you?” I ask him as I wrap myself around the blanket as the cold winter air blows. “I am the god who answered your prayer. I’m Ares. The god of war.” He says as he kneels down to me and puts his hand on my head. “Y-you P-protected m-me.” I say as I shiver from the coldness.

He just nods and picks me up. He's so warm. “W-warm” I stutter out as I cuddle up to him. Pulling the blanket closer to me. He laughs gently. “Did anyone survive? Did my brother??” I ask but it’s a bit muffled because I covered my mouth so I can get warm faster. “No. Your brother didn’t want to leave his room to face what your parents did. And your parents died before the fire started.” he says softly as he turns away from my old house and starts to walk away. “You're going to be staying with me for awhile.” he says as i start falling asleep. “What's your name, child?” Ares asks.

“Anna… Anna Nikia.” I whisper as I close my eyes. “Sleep, Anna. You’ll need it if you're going to be staying with me on Olympus.” he says as i fall deep asleep.

When I awoke I was still in Ares’ arms but he was talking to someone. I kept my eyes closed. I couldn’t hear because I had just woken up but after a minute or two I could hear perfectly. “Please, father! I can’t just leave her somewhere to freeze!” I hear Ares say as he pulls me closer. “Then you’ll be taking her to Artemis, she’ll know what to do with this ugly child.” A man said as I heard Ares sigh and turn away from the man. “Before you go though. I heard Hera wants to see you.” The man says before Ares walks off.

I hear a door open and close and walking. “I guess you're my responsibility for now.” I hear him say as he stops in front of a door and moves one hand away from my body as I am a small child and can be held in one arm if needed. He then knocks on the door and waits. “Come in” I hear a woman say as he opens the door and closes it.

“Ah, Ares. I’ve been waiting for you. Now don’t give me that look!” The woman says which I can only guess is Hera. I don’t know what look Ares gave her but he pulls me closer somehow. “Now i know where that child comes from but the only way you can keep her here-” “Is to take her to Artemis. Yes, I know, Mother.” Ares cuts off Hera as he covers my face with his hand so even if I open my eyes I can't see anything.
