"So, what else is out here other than just skiing?" Chris wondered out loud and sipped his very hot cappuccino while they started back down away from the Jeep. Darren passed him his coffee before digging into the bag for his bear claw, took his cup back, and juggled the bag now into his hands, all in motion and just smiled with bright pleasure.
"My dear sweet, poor friend." Chris gave him flat agitated eyes which just made him beam right back. "What isn't there to do?" He took a bite and motioned around the mountain, chewed, and swallowed before saying, "They have so much. Great restaurants, and art galleries," That was definitely Christian's speed, and he perked up. "Gondolas that head up to about eleven thousand feet, with a view that will steal the soul from your body it's so fucking good. Black diamond slopes, hiking trails, and fuck, if you want, we'll go snowmobiling or dog sledding. I think..." He took another bite and choked it down, while Chris just folded the bag around his glazed donut like a real fancy gentleman and took his own massive chunk out of it. "...You have to make reservations for that last one, but the rest?" He flashed a delighted smile. "We can go anytime. We have six snowmobiles at the cabin. Snow should be deep enough up there for it."
Chris was delighted and asked, "Isn't there an old opera house around here too?"
Darren beamed at him like he had just cracked a code and it made Chris laugh and shake his head over that fucking look. Asshole. "Why yes, Christian, there is. Very good." He smirked right at that dark look and waved a hand. "Seriously though, yes. They'll have big-name guys there sometimes, and fuck, but during the X-games, this place is poppin' off the fucking rails."
Chris could only imagine that chaos, and devoured his donut because the sugar was hitting the spot and he was starving. Darren was right there with him on it, tossed the bag in a trashcan, and licked his fingers like a cretin.
"They have wineries and stuff?" He asked, and Darren looked at him then with a look so amused Chris just blinked at him in question and wasn't sure what the look was there. "What?"
"I mean, they do." He spread his hands and laughed, and Chris got it and cursed out loud before he laughed and just rubbed his forehead with the back of his hand. He offered a look of apology at those very bright eyes.
"I'm sorry. I don't know why I keep forgetting." He coughed into his fist, sincerely a little embarrassed.
Darren just grinned at him and shrugged. "I realize, I come off as an alcoholic and all." He said it playfully, and Chris laughed took a mouthful of coffee now, a little pink, and just shook his head at the tragedy now in play.
"No...well, I am used to seeing you crack a beer or three I guess. Still," He had to grin back and just bit his lower lip on the moment. "I should maybe not bring it up right?"
"Christian, you're the only one here concerned over our age gap." Darren just said it with brass balls, and Chris did look wildly out of sorts, amused and just a tad uncomfortable over it. "It doesn't bother me one fucking bit, babe."
"I don't know if it bothers me, I just feel like it should I guess." Honestly, he knew what it was that kept throwing him there. Most of the time he felt like Darren was older than him. He really did.
Just their mannerisms together, that flex of personality, and his general way of existing had all the implications of him being the senior member of their duo; he was far more comfortable in his skin, who he was, and his insights were spot on and vastly expansive. He had traveled, and done shit more manly and more diverse than Christian could even hope to match.
Even sexually he had taken the reigns right out the gate and just assumed that domineering spot in the mix and all that equated in Christian's head to him being the older man.
