"Katie, hurry the hell up!" Alexis complained. I shrugged as Alexis huffed at the lack of response. I sat back down on the couch instead of waiting by the stairs and got myself another dab ready. I didn't drink, so I decided I was going to go to the party high as hell, just in case no one had any weed there. Alexis groaned as she plopped down next to me. "Why does it take her so long?"
I started coughing as I exhaled and I tried my best to fan the smoke away from Alexis since I knew it wasn't her most favorite thing ever. "I told you to lie to her about what time to be ready by. You decided to tell her the truth." I grabbed my water bottle and took a decent sized drink to soothe my burning throat. "Plus, she goes all out for Halloween."
Katie popped into the living room just at that moment, looking almost exactly like Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I whistled at her as she gave a spin. "Sorry it took me so long. It's hard getting the makeup right."
I rolled my eyes as Alexis and I stood up and left Katie's apartment. The party we were going to wasn't that far away, we had agreed to walk. Since I wasn't drinking and my natural state of being was being stoned, I was confident I could get all three of us back to Katie's when we decided to wrap up the night. A ton of kids were running up and down the streets, trying to find houses giving out candy. All of their costumes were adorable and I made sure to wave at a couple of kids since I decided to keep it simple and dressed like a princess.
It only took us five minutes to get to the party, which had loud music blaring from it. The three of us made our way inside the party and Alexis broke off to the group of girls that were taking shots in the kitchen. Before long, Katie got pulled away for photos, since she was known for her costumes and everyone wanted to get a picture with her for their Halloween posts.
"I thought you didn't do parties." I turned my head at the deep voice and found Jackson, the guy I had a crush on that was in a few of my classes this semester. He had invited me to a party towards the start of the semester a couple of weeks ago, but I denied, using that excuse.
I couldn't help the easy smile that came over my lips. "I usually don't, but someone has to babysit Katie and Alexis, or they'll end up three states away tomorrow morning." I leaned against the wall. "Plus, drinking isn't my thing. I like smoking the green stuff instead."
Jackson chuckled. "Then why don't we go outside? They'll be fine for like fifteen minutes while we smoke a bit, right?"
I wrapped my arms around his and giggled. "Lead the way."
Jackson and I headed out the back door and went past a couple of the other groups that had collected outside. We found a comfortable little spot and sat down. I had no care as to if my dress got dirty, but Jackson pulled me onto his lap to prevent it from getting as dirty as possible. I couldn't help but hope it was for another reason, but I kept my focus on what the current mission was.
Jackson pulled out a joint and lit it. He took a good hit and passed it to me. "So, I'm guessing you're not much of a social person?"
I nodded as I let smoke swirl out of my mouth. I inhaled the smoke while passing the joint back to Jackson. "My social battery is pretty small. I hate big groups. This is the only party Katie and Alexis can get me to come to, and it's to watch them more than actually party. I prefer to get my projects and papers done, then work on art stuff while binge-watching movies and tv series."
Jackson nodded along as I talked. "Understandable. My social battery varies. Sometimes, I can go three weeks hanging out with people, then the next three, I just want to hang out by myself and deal with the least amount of people possible. Oh, and I didn't tell you before, but you're so cute in that dress."
