The library buzzed with a low hum of concentration. Phuwin, hunched over a table in a corner, felt the familiar ache in his chest as he watched Pond across the room. He was surrounded by his usual group of friends, his laughter echoing through the quiet space.
"He's so radiant," Phuwin thought, his heart skipping a beat. "Like the sun breaking through the clouds."
He loved the way Pond's eyes crinkled at the corners when he laughed, the way his smile lit up the room, the way he seemed to effortlessly draw people in with his charm. Phuwin, on the other hand, was content to observe, a silent admirer from the sidelines.
"He's probably talking about Gemini again," Phuwin thought, a pang of jealousy twisting in his gut. "He always seems to be teasing Gemini, his eyes sparkling with mischief."
He knew he shouldn't compare himself to Gemini, Pond's best friend, but he couldn't help but feel a twinge of insecurity. He wondered if Pond ever looked at him the way he looked at Gemini, with that playful sparkle in his eyes.
"I'm just a friend," he reminded himself, his voice a whisper in his head. "Just a friend who admires him from afar."
He tried to focus on his textbook, but his mind kept drifting back to Pond. He could almost feel the warmth of Pond's presence, the scent of his cologne, the sound of his laughter.
Suddenly, Pond caught Phuwin's eye. He smiled, a warm, genuine smile that sent a jolt of electricity through Phuwin's body.
"Hey, Phuwin!" Pond called out, his voice echoing through the library. "Come join us! We're discussing the next project."
Phuwin hesitated, his heart pounding in his chest. He wanted to go, to be closer to Pond, but the thought of joining their group filled him with anxiety.
"I'm good here," he mumbled, trying to sound nonchalant. "I'm almost done with this chapter."
"Come on, don't be shy," Pond said, his smile widening. "We need your brilliant mind on this."
Phuwin felt his cheeks flush. He knew he was being ridiculous, but he couldn't bring himself to move. He was afraid of what might happen if he got too close to Pond.
"I'll come later," he said, his voice barely a whisper.
Pond nodded, his smile fading slightly. "Okay, but don't disappear for too long."
Phuwin watched as Pond turned back to his friends, his heart sinking. He knew he was making a mistake, pushing Pond away, but he couldn't help himself. He was afraid of getting hurt, afraid of losing the friendship he cherished.
"I'm a coward," he thought, his voice a bitter whisper. "I'm too afraid to take a chance."
He closed his textbook, his mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. He needed to find a way to express his feelings, to let Pond know how he felt. But the fear of rejection was a heavy weight on his shoulders, a constant reminder of the risks involved.
He found himself avoiding Pond's group, seeking refuge in the quiet corners of the library, the solitude of comfort against the overwhelming tide of his feelings. But even in the quietest of places, Pond's presence seemed to follow him. He could almost hear his laughter, feel the warmth of his gaze.
After a few hours the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the campus, Phuwin found himself drawn back to the corner wherein Pond and his friends are staying in. He needed to see Pond, to feel his presence, even if it was from a distance. He knew he was being foolish, but he couldn't resist the pull.
He found Pond and his friends gathered around a table, their heads bent over a project, their voices a low murmur. Phuwin hesitated at the doorway, his heart pounding in his chest. He wanted to join them, to be closer to Pond, but fear held him back.
