Emma's breath caught in her throat. A mix of dread and curiosity flooded her. Who was this stranger? Could she trust them? She glanced at Sarah, who was preoccupied, rummaging through her bag for her keys.
"Emma?" Sarah's voice broke through her reverie. "Let's get to the police. We can figure this out together." Sarah didn' knew about that text message she thought maybe it would be better if at first she keeps it a secret
Emma nodded, but the unease nagged at her. There were too many unknowns, and the world outside felt both familiar and terrifyingly alien. As they stepped out into the sunlight, the vibrant city seemed to pulse with life, oblivious to her burgeoning nightmare.
After 40 sec they got to the station with a nervous feeling, what if they can't help?
The police station loomed ahead, a stark building that felt more intimidating than usual. Emma's heart pounded as they crossed the threshold, the scent of stale coffee and the low hum of conversation enveloping them. The atmosphere was heavy with the weight of stories untold, cases unresolved.
They approached the front desk, where a tired officer glanced up, his expression shifting from boredom to concern as he took in their anxious demeanor. "How can I help you?"
Emma opened her mouth to speak, but the words tangled in her throat. Instead, Sarah stepped forward. "My friend received a threatening letter. We'd like to report it."
The officer raised an eyebrow, clearly accustomed to handling all sorts of cases. "Do you have the letter with you?"
Emma retrieved the crumpled paper from her pocket, handing it over with trembling hands. As the officer read it, his brow furrowed. "Have you received any other messages or threats?"
"No," Emma managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn't knew why but hide the text message infront of everyone.. maybe it wasn't important... "Just this one."
He nodded, making notes in a small notepad. "We'll take this seriously. I need to get some information from you both."
As Emma answered his questions, her mind wandered back to the mysterious message on her phone. Who was the sender? What kind of help could they offer?
Once the initial report was completed, the officer reassured them, "We'll look into this and get back to you. In the meantime, consider changing your routines and being aware of your surroundings."
Emma felt a mix of gratitude and frustration. She had taken a step forward, but the questions remained unanswered. As they stepped back into the sunlight, the weight of uncertainty pressed down on her. She was no longer just an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. She was now part of something darker, something that threatened to consume her.
"Let's go back to my place," Sarah suggested, breaking the tense silence. "We can figure out what to do next."
Emma nodded, but her mind was racing, the earlier dread morphing into a grim determination. She needed answers, and whatever it took, she would uncover the truth behind the threats. The nightmare was just beginning, and she was no longer willing to wait for it to catch up to her.
