The Haunting of Westwood Sanatarium

1935-History

The construction in Wakefield in 1930 began and it was going to be a mental hospital by of the name of Westwood Sanatarium. The founders of the hospital believes that people with mental illness can be treated and cured they are four doctors who is founded the hospital. They are Dr. Hugh Parrish, Dr. Shawn Stuart, Dr. Arthur Doyle and Dr. Maxim Winters as they are all college graduates from studying mental illness. The hospital will have four floors as it will be able to house 120 patients for inpatient treatment. The actual construction began July 1st, 1930 as it took five years to build it and when the building was complete that was when the four founders hired a staff to help run the hospital from records department, nurses to give out medicine, security as well and people to run the group meetings that will be held for those who are receiving inpatient care how to cope with their issues . When the hospital gets their full staff to be able to handle 120 patients that was when the doors were finally open which was August 15th, 1935 as the founders were happy to announce to everyone that the hospital is open and here for those who needs help. Soon after the doors open at first it was those who suffered with depression were the first to visit the hospital for help. When it was December 15th came the first floor of Westwood Sanatarium filled with patients as the founders began helping treating the patients they currently have. Some of the patients that were staying at the Sanatarium were slowly improving from the groups the hospital offers to their patients while others were not showing any signs of any improvement. The ones showing problems the four doctors would get together to figure the next course of action they should do to get someone on the right track. In the beginning of Westwood Sanatarium the care for the patients seem honest and caring. As more people began checking in by the holidays as now the second floor of the hospital . The patients on the first floor does get visitors while they are pleased to see the good care they love ones are getting and how pleasant the hospital from outside to inside seem to be. They is even a small chapel inside the hospital so when one of the patients wants to visit the chapel they can. They could even go outside if they behave that is because the hospital has a section outside of the hospital for patients when the weather is nice can sit outside and enjoy the warm day. Dr. Hugh Parrish founder of Westwood Sanatarium believes different types of therapy can heal the mind. So far the staff of the hospital has no problems with the patients that are currently staying because all of them are suffering with depression and they are doing everything to find the route of their depression. The founders all agree to writing therapy to allow one to express themselves in ways they couldn't do so they believe writing it down could help for starters. The second thing they agree with is art therapy allowing them to draw their emotions. At first both writing and art therapy seem to be helping most patients as they were able to express themselves either in writing or art. At the beginning the hospital was getting a good reputation for helping people with depression as the hospital continues to take patients in as both first and second floor so far will be the only part of the hospital so far will be currently busy. The four doctors continues to use the therapy they all agreed with as they witness it seems to be working so far. When Christmas time came the staff put together for the patients that were there a Christmas as the nurse made sure the staff made a small feast for the patients while the other nurses decorated the floor with Christmas ornaments plus has a Christmas tree to. The patients were all giving pads when it came to writing and art therapy some showed slowly opening up and those were having a hard time were given time to and when they did they slowly finally admitting they are slowly feeling better as the founders were happy when they heard their patients tell them this. That was when they decided to hold another meeting with each other to see what else they can come up with to try to help their patients. They all agree with trying now is music therapy see if music can help relax their patients so they try opera music. The very first day they tried music it seems to relax others more than others but they all seem to be enjoying the music so the four decide one day a week of music will be part of therapy. So far the therapy the founders decided to try with their patients seems to be working so they keep at it when they get new patients. Dr. Shawn Stuart who is a very caring doctor would take the time to see his patients and those who wasn't he will be willing to help when they couldn't find their doctor for something. The staff finds Dr. Stuart was a pleasant man to talk to and work with and they to would ask him for advise from time to time or when they need help he would take time to help others. The other doctors were all the same so no staff could say anything against the doctor's or their treatment with their patients since afterall is it slowly working for the patients so the staff believes in that the founders knows what they are doing. So the year ended with no problems in Westwood Sanatarium as everything runs smoothly for now. Another thing the founders did agree was the diet their patience will eat and they know a good diet does play not only the body but the mind as well so they agreed what the hospital will be serving for meals for their patients.
