Mourning day.
I found myself staring as I watched the warriors gather for a meeting, though I wasn't quite old enough to attend that meeting, I was still a kit.
I looked back at my mother. She wasn't paying attention, so I decided to wander out of the nursery. I looked around, gasping in amazement as I saw just how big the camp was. Shadow Clan camp was huge! No wonder the other kits were so jealous of the apprentices, they get to go out into the camp and attend meetings. This is exciting, I thought as I walked through the soft dirt that covered the ground.
"Dead' Kit!" A warrior had called.
I froze as I heard my name, yep, That's me, Dead' Kit. I'm not sure why I was named that, after all, it sounds stupid. Like someone is calling me deceased. Anyways, I looked up, wondering which warrior had spotted me.
"Oh, Yes Sunny' Fire?" I asked. Sunny' Fire was my buddy, He taught me anything and everything to be a good warrior.
"How many times have you gotten in trouble by your mother and the leader about wondering outside of the nursery?!" Sunny' Fire Asked with a stern tone.
"Many times, Sunny..." I said in shame, lowering my head.
Sunny' Fire picked me up by the neck nape and carried me back to the nursery. He then set me down by my mother, and my littermates, the one place I hated to be.
He then left the Nursery, leaving me behind with my littermates and mother. I hated the Nursery, and my littermates. My littermates were disrespectful, no one had taught them any manners. Lucky for me, I have good manners thanks to Sunny.
I looked at my mother and sighed.
"When do I get to roam about like the apprentices?" I asked.
"In a few moons, Dead' Kit. But for now, if you want to keep a reputation, you better stay in the nursery, instead of wandering out of the den, little one." My mother spoke in a soft tone.
Ah, I always loved her soft tone, so soothing. Though my littermates were making it harder to pay attention all the time...
Those Few moons had passed, and I was now an apprentice. Sunny' Fire was my mentor, as expected.
Unlike any other apprentice, I was the smart, and quick learning one. I was intelligent, and I had the most respect for our clan, even more respect than our leader.
One day I heard there was a meeting, so I attended...only to find out that my mother was killed...
I paused, and all I could think of was the moments that were so enjoyable with her...
'Where did I go wrong?' I thought.
I looked up at Sunny' Fire, who was concerned for me, And I just looked back at the dirt, staring into an abyss.
Was she really gone? How did she die? And if anyone had hurt her, who was it...?
"Spotted' Tail was killed by one of our enemies...they go by the name Smoke' Whisker." Our leader spoke, paused, then continued, "she was a good cat, and a good mother."
'Smoke' Whisker?! the black and grey cat who lives in the barn? That rat!' I pondered.
I got up, and left... Sunny' Fire watched me, and tried to call me back, though I didn't listen. He followed me into the apprentice den instead.
I lay down in the leaves, and think to myself, then I speak.
"I'm going after Smoke' Whisker...." I said bluntly, Sunny' Fire looked surprised.
"You can't! Revenge won't make it any better, Dead' paw." Sunny spoke worriedly
"Yes, it will! I will get revenge; I will avenge my mother! She meant everything to me! so why can't I make the one suffer who made me suffer?" I said sternly
"Because it's wrong! just let it go, Dead' Paw." Sunny spoke again.
"No! I'm not going to let it go! Smoke' Whisker deserves to feel the same pain my mother did!" I growled.
"Jesus, you know you're difficult, right?" Sunny asked with a playful tone.
"Yeah, I know." I said with sarcasm.
"Tell you what, Dead' Paw, I'll talk to our leader. If she says yes, we go out to find Smoke' Whisker, and you can confront him. And that doesn't mean murder!" Sunny warned.
I stayed silent for a few moments...
"Fine! I promise not to murder if we go outside camp." I agreed finally.
"Good deal, now let's go." Sunny commanded.
I followed him as we walked to the Leader's den. I had hoped it would be a yes, but I expected it to be a no. Though when Sunny asked, it was a yes! I got excited but hid that, so I didn't look like a child in front of the Leader like some fool.
