Luce watched from the window sill as Ashford eventually settled down and fell into a rough sleep. The boy had scared the bird. Scared him almost as much as he seemed to scare himself. By the time the boy had reached his room his aura had darkened from near white to a soot-like grey. Luce didn't know how to fix it, but the boy had somehow worked himself up into this episode, and couldn't fight it off. What if he had gone black tonight? Luce shuddered. Iynx was correct that his life was connected to the boy's. If he went black surely Luce would as well, or more likely Luce would've been ripped to shreds.

Iynx had been right about another thing as well. Not a boy I think, not at heart. Luce sighed. He wasn't certain of course, but from their thoughts tonight it seemed as though they weren't fond of being a boy. No wonder the kid's aura had changed more than once over the years. If he, she wasn't even spiritually aligned with her own body, how could she have any attachments to the earth?

It was more of a wonder to him now how the Dullard had maintained a stable aura until now. Realistically, the dullard should've broken down somewhere near puberty and gone downhill from there, but even now she seemed to stabilize before his very eyes. Her aura had brightened back to its normal silvery grey while she slept. That didn't ease any of his discomfort.

Something had triggered this. He didn't know what had triggered the down spiral, and moreover, he had no ability to prevent a second trigger. All he knew was that the boy he had been watching the last two weeks, was not a male at all, and Luce had no answers for that either.
