I couldn’t help myself and I needed to get this idea out. Yes. Another Ashley Purdy book, but it’s worth it. Here’s Chapter 1, hope you enjoy.
~Jeremy’s P.O.V.~
I was the first child born in the Ferguson family, the first boy as well. And when I was four my mom was having another kid. I was a single child, and it was lonely, I wanted to share it with someone. I wanted to have a little brother so badly! I wanted someone to roughhouse with and teach how to get out of trouble. Every day I would wake up to see my mothers’ stomach protruding from underneath her shirt. I waited until the day my mom left for the hospital to know what kind of baby we were going to have.
I had to stay home when mom left for the hospital. Uncle Joey stayed with me until my dad came back. We played board games and watched TV in hope he could stray my mind from the baby. I ended up falling asleep and awoke to Uncle Joey gently shaking my shoulder.
“Jeremy” he whispered “get up, you get to meet the baby today”
I hopped up from where I had fallen asleep, eager to leave. “When?”
“As soon as you get dressed” he chuckled.
I leapt from the couch and ran upstairs to my room. I wanted to go now. I needed to see if I had a baby brother. I raced back down the stairs and to the car. Uncle Joey already had it started, so I hopped in and buckled my seatbelt.

“Mommy!” I cried running into her hospital room.
“Hi Jeremy” she smiled bending forward to kiss my forehead.
“Where’s the baby?” I asked my head swiveling about to see if it was anywhere in the room.
My dad chuckled a walked over to me “In the little bed over there” he pointed.
I ran over and looked over the edge of the bed. A baby laid there, its large green eyes open, gazing at its surroundings. My face fell as I noticed a pink beanie on its head. I turned back to my mom.
“It’s a girl?”
My Aunt Katherine came and picked the baby up from the bed, walking her over to my mother. My mother greeted her with open arms and a smile. How was I supposed to mess around and play instruments with a girl? Or what if she would even like what I wanted to teach her in the future? Would she even be capable of doing those kinds of things?
“Jeremy” my mom whispered, rocking the baby in her arms “Meet your new sister, Scarlett Vallie Ferguson”
I approached slowly Scarlett’s eyes following me. She swung he arms and giggled, and a sweet smile was on her face. I let my expression become a smile and I held out my hand. She reached and grabbed my finger, her warm, soft, little fingers grasping tightly. I looked from our hands to her eyes and I felt my heart melt.
She had dark hair right now, a very dark brown. Her eyes were a dark emerald green, until the color hit her irises. From there it seemed as though a bright white light exploded, swirling with the aweing green. I may have wanted a baby brother, but I suppose a baby girl would be fine. I could still teach her all the things I wanted to. And I knew that I would protect her.
“Yes” my mom looked at me with a half-smile “I’m sorry it’s not the baby brother you wanted”
I gave her a smile as well “That’s okay, I can still teach her lots of stuff”
“Remember Jeremy” my dad placed his hand on my back “She’s still very little, she won’t be able to do anything like roughhouse until she’s as old as you are now”
