A/N: Author here, this chapter serves as more of a short pilot... In addition, this is my first story, kinda bad. if there are ANY tips that you have in mind, i beg of you comment on anything that could potentially enliven my writing skills and experience

The smell of warm, sweet pastries ventured through the entirety of Courtney's home. She had just gotten done baking a batch of delicious-smelling cupcakes. She meticulously readied them with flavorful icing, placing them in a tray. Finally done, she let out a satisfied sigh and a soft smile stretched on her face. Picking it up, she brought it outside. She started down the sidewalk, stopping in front of the house next door. New neighbors. She had only taken a glance or two from her window once they started moving in, but it seemed like a standard nuclear family. She steadily raps on the door, awaiting an answer.

After a minute or so, a boy around her age came to open the door.

I just baked some cupcakes for the new neighbors. I have to say, I did a great job. Can't a girl give herself some credit? I headed over to next door, and knocked three times; The ideal and traditional amount of times to knock on a door. I normally do a firm three knocks on a door. I waited a minute or two, and a boy looking to be around my age opened the door. I remember thinking, 'Jeez, this guy's a mess'. He kinda looked scruffy. I cleared my throat. Best not to comment.

"Hi! I'm Courtney Satella. My family and I live next door, you're my new neighbor, correct?" I grin, trying to be as welcoming as possible.

He looked me up and down, smirking. "Well then, Courtney," he began. "Living here sure won't be much of an eyesore..." He stated, then fixed himself straight. "Duncan. Duncan Tarun. Whatcha got there?" He gestured to the tray I was balancing in my hands.

I found him weird, but it would be most impolite to react to his oh-so desperate attempt to make me angry. "Nice to meet you... I made these for you and your... family, I presume?" I questioned as I handed the tray to him, my hands falling to my side.

I gotta admit, I wasn't expecting a pretty girl to show up at my front door and bring me cupcakes. But hey, I'm not complaining.

Taking the tray, I got a whiff of the cupcakes. They were almost as good as she looks.

"Yeah, Just me and my parents. Thanks for the cupcakes. Appreciate it." I shifted the tray to one hand and offered her my hand for a shake, grinning.

Even unimpressed, I shook his hand, anyway. "Careful with that!" I respond, seeing as a cupcake almost tipped over due to his shift. His stupid attempt to be smooth almost cost me my hours of labor. I sighed and cleared my throat, straightening out my blouse.

"Okay, chill out, I got it, see?" He assured.

Why'd I panic like that over a stupid cupcake?
