In the evening at the dinner table:
“Son, what’s wrong? You look a little worried,” Rishi Khanna asked, concerned.
“No, Dad, it’s nothing like that, just the stock prices dropped,” Varun replied, trying to brush it off.
“Son, I’m your dad. It’s written all over your face that there’s something else bothering you,” Rishi said knowingly.
“Why are you forcing him? He’ll tell us when he’s ready. Don’t worry, son, everything will be fine,” Kirti added, trying to ease the tension.

Varun thought to himself, “I guess I should tell everyone now. The sooner I introduce her to my family and to Vanshi’s parents, the better.”
“Sorry, Mom, actually Dad was right. I’ve been dating a girl for the last 10 years,” Varun admitted nervously.

“Oh my, my son’s become a lover boy! Great! So, when are you going to introduce us to this lovely girl?” Rishi asked, teasing him.
“Wow, look at you, acting all cool. No anger at all like usual,” Kirti teased, amused.

“Kirti, what can I say? My luck was terrible in love, but maybe our son’s luck will be better,” Rishi thought all this, drifting into memories of lost love.
“Hey, where are you lost? The one in love is your son, but it looks like you’re the one daydreaming,” Kirti said, chuckling, and Varun couldn’t help but laugh too.

“Alright, Varun, bring her over for lunch tomorrow, okay?” Kirti said, and Rishi nodded in agreement.

Next Day – Lunch Time

“Dad, I’m going to pick up Vanshi, okay?” Varun called out.
“Yeah, bring my daughter home safely,” Rishi joked.
“Oh wow, Mom, look! Dad’s already on Vanshi’s side,” Varun said, pretending to pout.
“Aww, don’t worry, baby. I’m on your side. Just ignore your dad’s teasing,” Kirti said affectionately.

“Just wait, Varun. If my daughter has any complaints about you, you’ll be meeting her outside the house!” Rishi teased, laughing, while Kirti burst into giggles.

“I’m off to get her. Bye!” Varun said, excited but nervous.

After about an hour, the doorbell rang.

“Kirti, can you see who’s at the door?” Rishi called out while working on his laptop.

When Kirti opened the door, she was shocked at the sight of a beautiful, innocent face.

“Mom, this is Vanshi. Vanshi, this is my mom, Mrs. Kirti Rishi Khanna,” Varun introduced them proudly.

“Namaste, aunty ji,” Vanshi said politely, bending down to touch Kirti’s feet.

“Oh no, sweetheart, in our family, girls don’t touch feet,” Kirti said, touched by her respect.

“Who is it, Kirti? Call them inside,” Rishi said, getting up from his desk.

As he came closer and saw Vanshi, he was visibly shocked. Only one word escaped his lips: “Rakshita.”

“Dad, this is Vanshi, not Rakshita,” Varun quickly corrected, a little confused.

“Oh, I’m sorry. You just look exactly like someone I used to know, an old friend—Rakshita Singh,” Rishi explained, still in shock.

“Uncle… umm, Rakshita Singh… that’s my mother,” Vanshi said hesitantly.

The room fell silent for a moment. Rishi's face, once filled with shock, softened as realization hit him. His memories, once buried deep, came rushing back.

“Your mother... Rakshita?” Rishi stammered, his voice barely a whisper. He glanced at Kirti, who looked equally stunned, and then back at Vanshi. “It’s been so many years.”

Vanshi nodded, looking a little uncertain about what this meant. “Yes, uncle... do you know her?”

Varun stood frozen, his mind racing to catch up. “Wait… you knew Vanshi’s mom?”

Rishi exhaled deeply, his eyes distant as he remembered. “We were... close friends, a long time ago. But then... life happened.”

Vanshi, sensing the weight of the moment, smiled gently, trying to ease the tension. “Well, uncle, it looks like fate brought us back together. Maybe for a reason?”

Kirti, still in shock, finally spoke up, her voice filled with curiosity. “So, Vanshi, your mother... is she okay? How is she doing now?”

“She’s doing well, aunty. She’s settled in Delhi now,” Vanshi replied.

Rishi seemed lost in thought. “I never thought I’d meet her daughter... after all this time.”

Varun, sensing the atmosphere, tried to lighten things up. “Well, I guess the world really is small, huh? And, Dad, looks like you’re not just meeting my girlfriend but also reconnecting with your past!” He chuckled, though he was still processing everything.

Kirti smiled, trying to bring the conversation back to the present. “Well, no matter the connections, I’m happy to have you here, Vanshi. Let’s sit down and eat. We have a lot to talk about.”
