Prologue. (The end is a new beginning)

Anna's Pov;

It was March when it finally ended. It was the time of High school senior year final exams. Well it was actually September of the year before that, I just came to know about it later. I was foolish, so foolish I held on to every last bit of hope for a love long lost, or a love that was just my delusion.

I had tormented myself for months, waiting and waiting everyday, for a text. Every day from morning to night I used to wait to talk to him. What I got at the end of the day was, "I'm tired, let's talk tomorrow, good night." And tomorrow never came. We never talked again the way we used to.

My friends from school said I was stupid. They were right. One night I asked him, putting all my hope aside, "What is it that you really want, Samuel? You have been avoiding me for months! Don't torture me anymore. Do you want to stay with me or part ways."

And there it was. I waited for him to text back again. He read, and my heartbeat was as fast as it was the first time I had confronted him about my feelings. "I can't do it anymore." That's what he said. My heart sank. I knew it coming since months. I was just not prepared. "You can't do what?!" I asked, as if I was clueless. "This. Whatever this is, with you."

"You want to break up with me." I wanted clear words. "Yes." He admitted. "Okay." That's what I replied. Okay. And I threw my phone on the bed. I didn't understand anything. I felt so hurt that I went numb. I just didn't feel anything. For days, weeks and months.

I had been trying to sail a ship that was damaged and no matter how hard I would try to navigate in the ocean, it was meant to sink.

Narrator's Pov;

Anna had spent three years at Kinsley High School, where she transformed from a quiet, reserved girl in her freshman year into a fun-loving, cheerful and crazy girl with a lot of friends. Despite facing her share of ups and downs in friendships as she came to know people's intentions, she earned the loyalty of her closest friends, Amelia, Sherin, and Davis. By her sophomore year, her heart gravitated toward Samuel, a classmate who caught her attention with his quiet demeanor. During a school fest, Samuel initiated a conversation with Anna, and from there, they grew closer. Anna developed feelings for him but kept them to herself, unsure of how to proceed with the looming uncertainty of a potential move from the town.

However, her friend Amelia, who knew about Anna's feelings, couldn't keep it in. She confessed Anna's crush to Samuel before the end of sophomore year, forcing Anna to confront her feelings. Samuel didn't act surprised, he said he liked her too. They began dating. Everything was good in the beginning.

While they were together, communication between them was lacking. Samuel was reserved, and Anna found it hard to express herself in the relationship. At times, both grew distant, leaving gaps of silence that they didn't know how to fill. Anna's friends, especially Davis, concerned for her, advised her to reconsider her relationship with Samuel, suggesting that he might not be the right person for her as he knew something about him. Perhaps, Anna couldn't see the other side of Sam. Fueled by her affection for him, she ignored warnings, choosing to give Samuel the benefit of the doubt. She became distant even from her closest friends.

Then came the big change-Anna had to move to a different town for her senior year, leaving Kirkswood and Kinsley High behind. The distance put an even greater strain on their relationship. What had once been cold moments between them turned into long stretches of silence. Samuel, unable to handle the separation or perhaps unwilling to put in the effort to bridge the gap, became increasingly distant. Months passed, and Anna found herself constantly waiting for a message or call that never came. Eventually, the silence became unbearable.

Her friends in her new school, knew about her relationship and even they felt something strange. She went to hang out with them but she was always waiting for a text. They said she was hopeless and she should ask him what's wrong.

Summoning her courage, Anna decided to confront Samuel. She needed clarity, even if she feared what it might bring. During the conversation, Samuel, in his now characteristic coldness, told her that he wanted to break up. The distance, the lack of communication, and the strain had taken their toll. Despite everything, Anna realized in that moment that their relationship was no longer what it once was or maybe it was all a delusion...

As she stared at the texts, the finality of Samuel's words echoed in her mind. The town she had left behind seemed like a lifetime ago, and the boy she once loved now felt like a distant stranger. The relationship she once clung to was gone, but in its place, a new question lingered in her mind: Was it all a lie? Did she get cheated? Will she ever get a CLOSURE?
