The night felt endless. Every corner they turned, every shadow they passed, Emily's heart pounded louder. But the more she ran, the more certain she became. She couldn't run from this. She couldn't run from him. They were in this together now.

They found refuge in an old, abandoned warehouse at the edge of the city. The air was damp and filled with the smell of rust and wood, but for a brief moment, there was peace. Lucas shut the door behind them, securing it with a chain he pulled from somewhere in his jacket.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice raw with guilt as he collapsed against the wall. "I never wanted you to get caught up in this. Not like this."

Emily stepped forward, placing a hand on his chest. His heart was still racing beneath her fingertips. "You don't get to apologize for that," she said softly. "This is my choice. And you're not alone in this, Lucas."

His eyes searched hers, as if looking for something he couldn't find, but the silence between them spoke volumes. Slowly, he reached for her, his hand trembling just slightly as he cupped her cheek. "I don't deserve you," he murmured.

"You don't get to decide that," she whispered back, her voice full of quiet certainty. "We deserve each other."

And as their lips met again, this time with tenderness, with a promise, Emily knew that whatever the future held—whether it was danger, love, or both—they would face it together.
