1943. Teikoku Suburbs.

"Let's play plane crash," Kamikaze shouted excitedly as he looked at the hastily folded paper plane.

At that time, right under the sky of the Empire of the Rising Sun, suburban children like them rarely saw long-distance flights crossing the bay where Haruki lived.

So to the curious Kamikaze, planes looked like a rare type of iron falcon that could only be seen a few times in a lifetime.

Haruki's Elementals occasionally witnessed military planes cutting across the bright summer sky, carrying announcements from the other side of the country to civilian stations, or they would chase after unusual changes in the air.

Occasionally, there would be Western Imperial warplanes that would slip through the heavily fortified forests, and bombard their villages with new experimental bombs.

To Kaminari, planes were not a good thing. Because the Kuugun or "Air Force" were not bad people, but they never brought good news. Every step they took brought death: to themselves, to their enemies, and even to civilians who had to sacrifice themselves for their ideals.

Kaminari did not like loud noises, especially when the sound of bombs exploded in his ears. Even when he hid under countless layers of earth in the shelter, the sound was still too terrible and left a heavy thud in his heart.

Not to mention, after the most recent bombing, there were not many shelters that could hold more than 30 people. The chance of survival when the plane came to visit was very low. But it felt like, except for Kaminari, the other two were not really worried or that cautious.

Of the three boys, Chikyuu – whose eyes were always closed – was the least concerned about the things flying around his head. He only really paid a little attention when Kamikaze mentioned how to fold a paper plane with a slender crane-like line, but that was like being interested in origami: Chikyuu did it to make the other person happy, not because he thought it was important.

Besides, Chikyuu wasn't very good with his hands, and he always failed when it came to crafts.

It was funny, even though Kamikaze folded them beautifully, those planes never flew the way he threw them. No matter how hard he swung his arms, how precise he measured the force of his throw, the crane plane would only sway a few centimeters in the air before falling to the ground, its tip dented to one side.

Every time, Kamikaze grumbled, he wanted to throw it at least across that dam. Sigh.

For some reason, Kaminari opened his mouth to tease, "It's like a kamikaze, isn't it?"

"Are you making fun of me?" The person who was mentioned pouted. What, just the fact that Haruki named this energetic Wind Elemental after the name of that suicide squad was enough to make Kamikaze feel dissatisfied. He didn't dare to argue with his master, but he didn't understand the reason behind it either.
