"I don't think that's going to be enough until the end of the month." Your mother says, looking at the pitiful coins on the table.

You stare at them, feeling completely helpless. "You're right. We need to make more money somehow." You sigh. "Maybe I should find another job?"

"No, there's no need. I'll try to find one myself." She replies.

"But you're sick!" You exclaim, alarmed.

Your mother moves her hand in a dismissive gesture. "I'm sure it'll be fine."

You and your mother have been living a miserable life for a few months now.

Things started to get worse after your father's death. All the debts he left behind, you had to pay somehow. You didn't know how much he owed until after he passed away. It seems you didn't know him all that well.
And of course it didn't stop there. Everything was too much for your poor mother and her health just got worse as time passed. The treatment is even more expensive than the rent itself, making it impossible to pay.

You're doing all you can, but apparently, it's not enough. You're trying to be strong enough to keep your mother from collapsing into the pit of despair, but you're not sure if you can keep this up before doing it yourself.

Currently, you work in a small cafe close to your home. You've been working there for a few weeks now. Although the lack the money is a huge problem, you know that's not the only thing missing in your life. That other thing being friends.

The other employees refuse to approach you thanks to your father's reputation.

Apparently, he didn't work at night. He would go to bars to drink and cause trouble to those who would be unfortunate enough to be on his path at the wrong time. People who had seen him in these places claimed that many were afraid of him because of his aggressive and mean behavior when drunk.

All this was strange to you, as your father never treated you badly under any circumstances. Your mother was as shocked as you were. It took you a while to accept that all of this was true, but eventually, you had to. Seeing that your father succeeded in keeping this side of himself secret, it shouldn't have surprised you knowing what else he was hiding. Owning money to bad people being one of those things.

To think that you don't have what many have thanks to your father's mistakes makes your blood boil. Yes, you loved him with all your heart, but apparently, the man you admired may never have existed in the first place.

Sometimes you wish you had someone you could talk to, someone who would understand you and would be there for you when you needed them. But would that change anything? Probably not.

{...}

One day while you're working, a boy around your age comes in. He's wearing a dark green zipper coat that reaches his knees, plain black jeans and brown shoes. His hair has a pale pinkish off-white color, like you've never seen before. The boy is tall and skinny, almost like he doesn't eat at all. He's really pale as well, and you can't help but wonder if he's alright.

Little did you know that this boy with such a unique appearance was going to turn your life upside down.

Hey, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I know it's really short, but I promise they will get longer lol
