The conference buzzed around him, but Ethan couldn't focus. Amelia's words echoed in his mind, a haunting melody of uncertainty. He'd spent the rest of the day searching for any information about her, any connection to Anya, but found only a trail of accolades and praise. Was he wrong? Was he letting his past cloud his judgment? He needed to know.

He found himself drawn back to the corner where he'd first seen her. Amelia was gone, but the group of students remained, still discussing healthcare reform. He lingered, listening, hoping to glean more insight into her character.

"Did you hear about the new virus?" one student asked, his voice hushed. "It's spreading like wildfire."

"It's terrifying," another student said. "They say it's unlike anything we've ever seen before."

Ethan felt a chill run down his spine. He knew the virus was unlike anything they'd ever seen, but he also knew the truth about its origins. He had to find a way to warn them, to protect them.

He decided to approach the group, hoping to find a way to connect with Amelia again. He needed to know more about her, to see if she was truly on the side of good.

"Excuse me," Ethan said, stepping into the circle. "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I'm Ethan Lee, a medical student. I'm working on a project related to the virus."

The students looked at him with curiosity. "Really?" one of them said. "What kind of project?"

"It's still in its early stages," Ethan said, feeling a surge of courage. "But I'm trying to develop a new treatment, something that could potentially stop the virus from spreading."

"That's amazing," one of the students said. "We're all rooting for you."

"Thank you," Ethan replied, his gaze searching for Amelia. He spotted her across the room, talking to a group of professors. She caught his eye and gave him a small smile.

He excused himself from the students and walked over to her. "Amelia," he said, his voice a little shaky. "I'm glad I ran into you again. I wanted to talk to you about what I was just telling those students. I'm working on a new treatment for the virus, and I think it could be very promising."

Amelia's expression softened, a hint of interest in her eyes. "That's wonderful, Ethan," she said. "I'm always interested in hearing about new research. Tell me more about your project."

"It's still early," Ethan said, feeling a mixture of excitement and apprehension. "But I'm using a combination of traditional herbal remedies and nanotechnology. It's a risky approach, but I believe it has potential."

Amelia's eyes widened, a flicker of recognition crossing her features. "Nanotechnology?" she said, her voice tinged with enthusiasm. "That's fascinating. I've been working on a similar project, though my focus is on using nanobots to deliver targeted therapies for other diseases."

Ethan's heart skipped a beat. He felt a surge of hope, a sense of connection. "Really? Maybe we could collaborate? I think our research could complement each other."

Amelia's smile broadened, her eyes sparkling with newfound enthusiasm. "I think that's a fantastic idea, Ethan. I've been looking for someone to collaborate with, someone who shares my vision for the future of medicine. I believe we could make a real difference together."

Ethan felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. He couldn't help but see a ghost of Anya in Amelia's smile, a hint of that same calculating ambition that had once led to his downfall. But he also felt a pull, an irresistible force drawing him closer to the truth. He knew he had to be careful, to tread a fine line between curiosity and caution.

"Tell me more about your project," he said, his voice steady but laced with a hint of suspicion. "I need to know more about your research, your methods, your goals."

Amelia leaned closer, her voice a low whisper. "It's still in its early stages, but I believe it could be the key to stopping the virus's spread. I've been working on a way to use nanobots to deliver a specific type of herbal extract directly to the infected cells. It's a delicate process, but I think it could be effective."

Ethan felt a chill run down his spine. He recognized the herbal extract. It was the same one that Anya had used to create the virus in the first place. He knew that Amelia's project was dangerous, that it could be used for both good and evil.

"I'm intrigued," Ethan said, his voice a mixture of curiosity and caution. "But I need to know more. What are your true intentions, Amelia?"

Amelia's smile faded, her eyes meeting his with a depth that he couldn't decipher. "My intentions are pure, Ethan," she said, her voice soft. "I want to help people, to find a cure for this virus. I want to make a difference in the world."

Ethan couldn't shake the unease settling in his stomach. "But how can I trust you? I've seen what this kind of ambition can lead to. What if you're not who you claim to be?"

Amelia took a step back, her expression shifting to one of surprise. "Ethan, I understand your concerns. But I'm here for the right reasons. I want to fight against this virus, not exploit it."

He searched her face for any sign of deception, any flicker of Anya's familiar coldness. "I need to see your research. I need to know exactly what you're doing."

Amelia nodded slowly; her expression serious. "I can show you, my lab. But I promise you, I have no hidden agendas. I want to work together to make a difference."

Ethan felt a surge of hope, but doubt lingered. Could he truly trust her? He made a decision. "Alright, let's go to your lab. But I need full transparency."

"Of course," Amelia said, her voice resolute. "I'll answer all your questions. You deserve that."

As they walked together through the crowded conference, Ethan couldn't shake the feeling that he was stepping into a complex web of intrigue. He needed answers, and he was determined to uncover the truth about Amelia Hayes. The stakes had never been higher.
