Chapter 26: The Bullet's Aftermath
Scene 1: A Painful Awakening
Setting: The dock, chaos unfolding.
Ethan crumpled to the ground, pain radiating from his shoulder. The world around him blurred as he fought to maintain consciousness. He heard shouting, the distant sound of sirens approaching, but it felt like he was underwater, disconnected from reality.
"Ethan!" Reyes' voice broke through the haze. He rushed to Ethan's side, kneeling beside him. "Stay with me, man. Help is on the way."
Ethan gritted his teeth, trying to focus. "Shade... don't let him get away!"
Scene 2: A Desperate Pursuit
Setting: The dock, frantic action as officers converge.
Reyes turned to the other officers who had chased after Shade's crew. "Secure the area! He can't get away!"
As officers fanned out, the sounds of pursuit echoed through the docks. Ethan struggled to prop himself up, his vision flickering between clarity and darkness.
"Ethan, you need to lay still," Reyes said firmly, applying pressure to the wound. "You've been shot. Just focus on breathing."
Scene 3: A Moment of Clarity
Setting: The dock, the chaos subsiding as help arrives.
Ethan winced at the pain, but something inside him ignited. "Reyes, you need to catch him. He knows something. About my dad..."
"I will," Reyes promised, looking into Ethan's eyes. "But you need to stay conscious. Talk to me."
Ethan nodded weakly, his thoughts racing. "Shade mentioned corruption... a war... who's behind it?"
Reyes glanced around, ensuring the area was secure. "We'll figure it out. Just hang in there."
Scene 4: The Sirens Approach
Setting: The dock, the sound of sirens growing louder.
As the sirens approached, Ethan felt a strange calm wash over him. He could hear the distant calls of his fellow officers, the urgency of their actions grounding him in reality. He thought of his father—of everything he had sacrificed.
"Ethan!" a familiar voice called. It was Sergeant Morgan, rushing toward them. "What happened?"
"He was shot," Reyes said, urgency creeping into his voice. "We need an ambulance, now!"
Scene 5: The Ambulance Arrives
Setting: The dock, the ambulance lights flashing.
Within moments, the ambulance arrived, paramedics rushing out. They quickly assessed Ethan's condition, working efficiently as they prepared him for transport.
"Hang in there, Ethan," one of the paramedics said, inserting an IV. "We're going to take care of you."
As they lifted him onto the stretcher, Ethan's eyes darted around, searching for Shade. But the shadows offered no clues—only darkness.
Scene 6: The Hospital
Setting: The hospital, bright lights overhead.
Ethan awoke in a hospital room, the sterile smell of antiseptic filling his lungs. Beeping machines surrounded him, and a dull ache throbbed in his shoulder. He turned his head slightly, spotting Reyes sitting in a chair by his bedside.
"Hey," Ethan croaked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Reyes looked up, relief flooding his expression. "You're awake. Thank God. You scared the hell out of me."
