The morning sun streamed through my bedroom window, casting a warm glow that danced across my walls. Today was the day I had been waiting for—the cheerleading results were finally being announced. I could hardly contain my excitement as I flipped through my closet, searching for the perfect outfit.
I settled on a light blue tank top that hugged my figure just right and a pair of black leggings. The ensemble made me feel confident and ready to take on the world. As I applied a light layer of makeup, my mind buzzed with the thought of finally being a part of something. I could hardly remember the last time I felt this hopeful.
“Bianca! Are you ready yet?” My mom’s voice called from downstairs, cutting through my thoughts.
“Almost!” I shouted back, glancing at the clock. Time was ticking away, and I needed to hurry. I grabbed my backpack and dashed down the stairs, my heart racing with anticipation.
The kitchen was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of pancakes. Aiden was already at the table, his eyes wide with excitement as he munched on a stack. My mom stood by the stove, flipping another pancake with a smile that lit up her face.
“Good morning, sweetheart! You look beautiful!” she said, glancing at me as I entered the room.
“Thanks, Mom! I can’t wait to hear the results!” I replied, taking a seat next to Aiden.
“Don’t forget to eat. You need your energy,” she said, placing a plate of pancakes in front of me.
I dug into the fluffy pancakes, savoring the sweetness with each bite. “Do you think I’ll make the team?” I asked, glancing at my mom.
“I know you will, honey. You’ve worked hard for this,” she reassured me, her eyes sparkling with pride.
As I finished my breakfast, I felt a surge of hope. I was more than just Aaron’s ex-girlfriend now; I was on my way to becoming a cheerleader.
After breakfast, I made my way to school, the nerves bubbling in my stomach. I couldn’t shake the thought of the previous months—how I had been a shadow of myself after Aaron dumped me. But today was different. Today, I would prove to everyone, especially to Roxanne, that I was more than just a girl who had lost her boyfriend.
When I entered the school, the usual buzz of chatter and laughter surrounded me. My heart raced as I made my way to the gym, where the results were to be announced. The hallway felt alive with excitement, and as I approached the gym doors, I could see a crowd of students gathered outside, their faces a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
“Hey, Bianca!” Jenna called out, waving me over. She stood with a group of friends, her expression bright. “Are you ready for this?”
I smiled nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I think so. I just hope I made it.”
We stood together, watching as more students arrived. The gym doors swung open, and the cheerleading coach stepped out, clipboard in hand. The chatter quieted, and I held my breath, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Thank you all for your hard work during tryouts,” the coach began, her voice clear and confident. “I’m proud to announce the new cheerleading team members.”
As she started calling names, I felt the tension in the air. Each name that was called made my heart race faster, and when she finally said mine, I could hardly believe it.
“Bianca Lee!”
The gym erupted into cheers, and I felt myself being lifted off the ground by Jenna, who was practically squealing with joy. “You did it! You made the team!”
