i wore a white short sleeve top, black sleeveless blazer, black mini skirt and black boots as i walked into the cafeteria inspired restaurant, late and anxious.

i scanned the dimly lit space for carrie and her friends, my boots echoing softly against the hardwood floor. i spotted them in a corner booth, carrie's blonde head bobbling gleefully as she laughed loudly.

as i approached the table, their conversation died down, and i was met with three pairs of interested eyes. carrie patted the seat next to hers, "you're late." she said with a smile.

i laughed, feeling a mix of relief and slight embarrassment. "sorry, i got caught in some subway drama." i responded, taking a seat.

"subway drama?" a lady with brown hair, the more polite of the bunch, chimed in. "that sounds dreadful." she was beautiful in a polished sort of way, with the delicate features befitting someone of her old-money background.

a red haired woman, the clear skeptic of the group, rolled her eyes. "it's new york, there always subway drama."

a third woman, with a more sultry look and blonde hair, chuckled. "now now, miranda, don't be like that. give the girl a break." she turned to me, a warm smile on her lips.

"don't mind miranda, she's got a thing for sarcasm." carrie said, sticking her tongue out in miranda's direction. i couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a bit more relaxed.

"i'm charlotte by the way," the polite lady introduced herself, her smile warm. "and miranda and samantha." she said, introducing the other two. i nodded, making a mental note of their names.

"nice to meet you all." i replied, genuinely enjoying the contrast in personalities at the table. "i'm jamie."

"so, tell us about yourself, jamie." samantha spoke up, leaning forward in her seat, eyes curious.
