Diya POV:

The clouds shivered when a huge fork of white light split the sky into shattered pieces for an instant, making them pour hard.

I sat up in a jerk, clutching the pillow to myself, when the thunder followed on its heels, battering my ears and making my heart anxious in the middle of the night.

The big angry drop of rain was striking the balcony glass door with so much force that it could break any moment.

I took hold of a glass of water when I noticed my hands had been trembling. Tears escaped from my eyes as they were waiting for to appear tonight. Somehow, between all this, I managed to gulp the water.

I drew the curtains and sat in my previous spot. I remembered how much I loved this season. No thunderbolt, no storm could scare me off. It was just me and the heavenly drops of pearl, enjoying without any care of the world. But now, not only this, but every season scared me off.

My lashes lowered with tears escaping my eyes only to be opened in jerk again at the sound of thunderbolt clashing.

Not having any option, I took out the small box from the drawer bedside my bed and gulped the pill before hiding inside the blanket.

"Diya bibi...bibi uthe subh ho gayi." (Diya wake up.)

My eyes stirred hearing someone waking me up. I opened my eyes and found Kurba Bai removing the curtains.

My lashes immediately forced closed due to extreme sunlight reflecting across the glass door.
I slowly opened my eyes,  adjusting to the atmosphere.

The sun was at its peak, spreading hope to many lives, but for me, it was the same, just another day of my life. An invisible question mark.

"Bibi, aap naha lo mai tab tak room ki safai kar deti hu."
(Bibi, you should take a bath till then I'll clean the room)

She said cleaning the balcony area as it was a mess from last night's rain. She had been our house help since I was a kid. Mom told me her daughter and son-in-law died in a car accident when her grandson, Faiz, was just 2. After which, they had been living with Mom and Dad as she had no one other as family.

I got up from the bed and walked to the bathroom to freshen up.

From the time I exited the bathroom, she had finished her work and left. I walked inside the closet and slid the drawer. It was loaded and was kept loading with many pretty outfits from the past 5 months by Mom Dad. I did not think more than 10 dresses were even touched.

I sighed and took out a casual outfit. I descended the stairs after getting ready and found Mom and Dad in the dining room having their breakfast.

"Diya, come. We are almost done." Dad said seeing me. I sat beside him and Bai placed my breakfast in front of me.

"Did you sleep well baccha?" Mom asked, and I nodded, taking my first bite.

They finished, and Dad gave me a side hug, kissing my head before going to the office. " Take care."
Mom did the same and joined him. "Call me if anything you want. Love you."

They were always like this. Nothing had changed. Always work and work. Jai and Diptee, the self-made couple, started their own construction company from scratch after both of their families refused to accept them as they married each other, going against their families. After years when their hard work paid off, they collaborated with Malhotras, expanding their business in various fields. Even after becoming parents, they were more focused on their business. That didn't mean they didn't love or take care of their children. Our every stubborn wish and our every demand was pampered. Me and Anjali used to run all over the office and prank the employees and in the end we four came home together.
