🥀 | Chapter Twenty - Eight

The house was more beautiful than I remembered, it felt like it had been forever. I saw dad's police car in the yard in park and heard he was at home. I must have been standing, at least it felt like many hours, but the time had only gone forward a quarter of an inch. I've been in town for a while now and Embry is the only one who knows about it.

I took a deep breath and smelled a familiar scent and walked towards the door. Carefully turning the handle, I stepped into the hall and heard the page of the newspaper turn and the radio playing softly.

Bella must have been with Edgar and the others planning the wedding. I walked to the door opening and cleared my throat. "Hey dad." I said softly and he quickly turned around. "Rory! What are you doing here?" He asked surprised and got up coming to hug me. I held my breath as I hugged dad. He was warm and I could feel the blood rushing through his veins. I let out a breath and nothing.

Confused, I let go when dad moved back to the chair to his coffee cup. "Um I came back, I thought I'd surprise Bella and it didn't work out right in Italy anyway." I mumbled out loud and dad looked at me thoughtfully. "That's good I get to keep my other daughter with me longer at least." Dad muttered a little sadly famously.

I stepped a little to the side, staring at my reflection in the blackboard, the brown eyes looked back at me and dad cleared his throat. "You are very pale even though you were under the sun all summer." Dad spoke and turned the page of the newspaper. "Yeah it was really hot there and I avoided getting the sun." I explained, twirling the ring on my finger.

"You probably heard about Bella and that Edgar's wedding." Dad muttered and stared at the wedding invitation while sitting at the kitchen table again. It felt so familiar and I laughed a little sadly before I answered. "Yeah I heard and that's why I came back too."

"Are you sure everything is alright Rory?" Dad glanced at me and I smiled at him nodding as I picked up my suitcase. "Everything is fine. I'm going to unpack my luggage." I said looking at dad and he nodded.

I walked up the stairs and glanced at Bella's room before I bit my lip and walked into my own room looking around while sitting on the bed. I dug out my phone and looked for the charger cord in the nightstand drawer. I felt empty, my heart twisted sometimes when I thought about Italy and Alec. I watched as my phone started to charge and I cleared my mind.

I sat on my bed and the evening came quickly. I heard the clock ticking and the TV on downstairs. The engine running outside and shutting down. It wasn't long before the front door opened and I heard Bella greet our dad. "Oh hey Bells." Dad spoke downstairs and soon footsteps came upstairs. I slapped my hands on my thighs and got up from the bed walking towards Bella's room.

I must have been like air because Bella didn't even notice me at the door. She moved things and stopped at the end of the bed to look at the dream catcher. "Hey Bella." I spoke out and saw her jump into the air and turn to look at me with wide eyes.

"Rory? Oh my gosh. How?" She spoke and ran to hug me. She put her arm around me. "Why didn't you say you were coming? You haven't answered in a long time, I thought you weren't going to come. I wanted to come to Italy get you." Bella spoke quickly and soon I felt her freeze in place.

Her heart skipped a beat and I heard it start to speed up. Bella pulled away, stepping back. "Aurora, why are you so cold?" She asked out of breath. "As cold as Ed..." She said freezing and looked up into my eyes.

I turned my eyes towards the window when I saw Edward enter the room. "Bella I came to see...oh hey Aurora." Edward said walking over to Bella's side and soon he was staring at me as well.

"Surprise." I said out loud spreading my arms and Edward's eyes widened shortly after taking a full look at me. "No.." He said out loud and Bella raised her hand to her mouth.

"Please tell me this isn't real, you're not..." Bella muttered, her voice wavering, disappearing towards the end of the sentence.

"How did this happen?" Edward asked carefully and Bella sat down on the bed. "Alec got mad at me... I... I was expecting Paul's baby." I said out loud and Bella looked up. "You what? And you didn't say anything?" Bella asked and we stared at each other. "I didn't know what to think or do when I heard Paul was dating Jake's older sister." I explained to him and Edward stepped closer to me.

"What did Alec do to you?" He asked and I shifted my gaze to him. "He changed me against my will, and I ran away from there." I said and Bella gasped. "I'm really sorry Rory." She spoke and got up to hug me again. "What happened to the baby?" She asked and I looked down putting my hand on my stomach. "I think it's gone, I can't hear anything." I said and Edwards gave a small nod. "Vampires can't breed."

"Have you killed anyone? How are you so calm?" Bella asked and Edward looked thoughtful. "I think she seems to have good self-control."

"Yes in Italy and I've been in town for a while now. I met Embry and he's the only one who knows about me and that I'm here. He's been helping me hunt animals and we've been testing my gift." I explained to them and Bella looked at Edward who sure wanted to ask a lot of things. I rolled my eyes at him. "Ask away Edgar."

"You have contact lenses, do you kill people too? What about your gift?" He asked and I gave him a fake smile. "My gift is really interesting, in Italy I managed to smash one of the Volturi guards, he exploded like a porcelain doll, to pieces on the floor." I started to explain and Edward gave a small smile.

"What does that mean?" Bella asked curiously and Edward looked thoughtful. "Maybe it's something that penetrates the mind and can do things like stop a person, thing and an object."

"Can she move things? Like a witch?" Bella asked and I raised an eyebrow. "No, Embry and I tried everything. We went after a vampire in a nearby town, we took him as a experimentally. I can feel like I own him, he did things I said and..." I explained and Edward quickly cut me off. "Manipulator."

"What?" Bella asked confused and Edward turned his head to her. "She can manipulate a person into doing things and feel like she owns them, she can get inside your head, feel every bone and organ. And like flipping a switch she can crush your bones, your organs and you completely." Edward explained and I crossed my arms over my chest.

"And how do you know that?" I asked narrowing my eyes. "There has been exactly one manipulator, Carlisle told that, he heard about that when he was in the Volturi. Manipulator guy was the worst fear to the Aro, Caius and Marcus, like a mirrorer, but that's just a rumor." Edward explained and Bella spun around the room.

"He was? What happened to him?" Bella asked pausing and I also got caught up in Edward's story where he used the word "was".

"Alec." I said out loud and they both turned to look at me. "What? Alec isn't here." Bella spoke looking around and I shook my head. "No Bella. Alec happened to him." I said and saw how they looked at each other.

We were quiet for a while until there was a rustle outside and Emmett came to the window. "We came to get Edward...Oh shit Rory's here!" Emmett exclaimed and Jasper soon jumped up from behind. "Hey guys." I told them and Emmett grinned widely.

"Aurora you have changed." Jasper said and I nodded to them. "I am, but hey no more about me. Bella and Edward's wedding is coming up now." I said looking at each of them and Bella nodded. "We'll talk about all this after the wedding." Bella said and I started to walk out of the room.
