I've been receiving packages and letters from Mr.Kane. But It's the first week i haven’t received any..and surprisingly i almost forgot about it too..
Because of a certain talkative girl.
Though i thought she was insufferable and unnecessarily rude at first..my view of her is starting to change..
I realized She's like the city noise. Extremely annoying at first but calm ones you get used to it.
I've never been the type to be bothered or interactive.
But moving to this town has pushed me way out of my comfort zone to be doing things I've never done.
For instance the other day Luna had me mowing the yard while she cleaned the fence. She even offered me sodas afterwards which we drank while enjoying the sunset.
It's just something about her. The first time she burst out explaining and apologising for being rude i couldn’t help but smile. Her face red, eyebrows almost teaching her hairline while her hands balled into fists.
That was the first time i realised good dreams can be disguised as nightmares too.
The more time i spent with her the more i wanted. I don’t even know what it is. Maybe I've been so stressed about my situation i just needed a distraction.Cigarettes were a distraction in middle school for me too..until i became addicted. But it wouldn’t be like that with her..right?
I sit on my porch as i see her coming back.
She smiles as soon as she sees me.
Her eyes disappear when she smiles.
"Someone’s in a good mood "
"Of course. I got seriously complimented by my superior today. All the way home I've been boasting to my mom about it"
"I saw you on TV today. You did a good job covering the news. Your mom must be proud"
Her smile slowly disappeared as soon as i said the last sentence. Uh oh
She slowly sat next to me and said
"I could only wish. I'm so desperate to make her proud of me each time i get any achievement i call her like a needy ex.. Only to get an earful from her about how much more my sister earns and how happily married she is..." her eyes shining under the moonlight as she stared at the sky.
"You know She's never once called me to ask if I've eaten or if I'm well...It's always either if i got paid or if I'm leaving my job to move back home"
I could've never guessed she was someone dealing with something like this. She always seems either tired or beaming with energy. It's nothing in between. I thought she was someone surrounded by good energy.
"But I'm going to prove her wrong. I can be a news anchor too. I will achieve my dream."
"Your dream is to be an anchor? Then why are you reporting?" i ask as careful as i could.
"Because they don't take young people as anchors. Apparently i look too young for people to take me seriously. So unless I'm in my 30s or more my chances are low.."
"That sounds unfair.. You still have 4-5 years of work left then..."
She suddenly looks at me with a teasing smile and says
"Do you feel bad for me? Seriously? Genuinely?"
"I said It's unfair. So yeah i guess i feel bad for you?" i said completely unsure of what I'm saying
She suddenly hugs my arm and says
"Then why don’t you buy a news channel and make me the anchor? I'll give you 5%..no 10% of what i earn"
Completely baffled i pull my arm away and get up to leave.
"Do i look like i can even afford a car?"
"No but you got a bike no? Still progress"
She keeps whining and latching onto me as i try to get inside my house.God what have i brought upon myself
