The next few days passed in a blur for Taylor. Between rehearsals, interviews, and a mountain of emails, she barely had time to catch her breath. Yet, every now and then, her mind wandered back to that fleeting moment on the field. To Travis.

She'd been around plenty of charming people before, but something about him stuck with her in a way she couldn't quite explain. Maybe it was the way he looked at her — not like she was Taylor Swift, but just a girl standing in a football stadium. Or maybe it was the simplicity of it all. No cameras, no over-the-top gestures. Just a genuine connection.

Still, she had a habit of overthinking things like this. And with her schedule, she had more than enough distractions to keep her from getting too caught up in one night.

But then, one afternoon, as she was sitting backstage strumming her guitar and working on some new lyrics, her phone buzzed.

Unknown Number
Hey, it's Travis. Hope you're not too busy being a superstar to grab that drink we talked about.

A small smile crept onto her lips as she read the message. She hadn't expected him to actually follow up, but there he was. Simple, straightforward, no games. It was refreshing.

Taylor hesitated for a moment, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. Part of her was tempted to put this off, tell him she was swamped — which was true. But another part of her, the part that was tired of constantly being "on," wanted to say yes. Wanted to see where this could go, even if it was just for one night.

Before she could overthink it any further, she typed back:
Taylor: Busy? Always. But I think I can make time for you.
She hit send before she could change her mind, feeling a strange mix of excitement and nervousness.

Almost immediately, her phone buzzed again.
Travis: Let me know when and where, and I'll be there.

She smiled again, shaking her head slightly. It felt weirdly easy, and maybe that's why she liked it.

A couple of days later, they settled on a quiet little place in Kansas City that Travis recommended — nothing flashy, just a laid-back bar where they could talk without being bombarded by fans or paparazzi. He promised her it was low-key, and Taylor appreciated that.

When she arrived that evening, she had her usual baseball cap and sunglasses combo, hoping to stay somewhat incognito. The place wasn't packed, but there was a nice hum of conversation in the air. She spotted Travis almost immediately, sitting at a booth toward the back, his tall frame making him hard to miss. He looked relaxed, dressed in a simple t-shirt and jeans, completely at ease in his surroundings.

When he saw her, his face lit up in that familiar smile, and he waved her over.

"Taylor Swift, in my neck of the woods," he teased as she slid into the booth across from him. "Never thought I'd see the day."

She smirked, taking off her sunglasses. "Well, you did say you'd convert me. Figured I should give Kansas City a fair shot."

Travis laughed. "Glad you're giving us a chance. You ready to dive into the world of football, or should I stick to the basics?"

She leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand, her eyes sparkling with playfulness. "I think I can handle it. But you might have to slow down if you start talking plays and stats. That's more your thing."

"Oh, trust me," he said, grinning, "I'm not here to talk about football the whole time. I figure we could trade stories. I'll tell you about how we barely made the playoffs last year, and you can tell me about, I don't know, selling out Wembley Stadium."

Taylor laughed. "Deal. But you should know, my stories are a little less... violent."

He leaned back in his seat, his eyes locking with hers in a way that sent a jolt through her. "I like that. Keeps things interesting."

For a while, they talked about everything and nothing. She told him about the craziness of her tour life — the constant travel, the fans, the thrill of stepping onto a stage and hearing thousands of people singing her songs back to her. He listened intently, asking the right questions, genuinely interested in her world. And in return, he gave her a glimpse into his life — the long days at practice, the physical toll of the game, the pressure of always having to be at the top of his game. It was a life she didn't fully understand, but the passion he spoke with was so familiar.

Halfway through the night, their conversation took a quieter turn. The bustling bar seemed to fade away as they talked about more personal things — their families, their dreams, their fears. Taylor found herself opening up more than she had with anyone in a long time, and Travis matched her vulnerability without hesitation.

At one point, Travis paused, glancing at her with a softer expression. "You know, I always thought we lived in completely different worlds. But sitting here with you... it doesn't feel that way."

Taylor looked down, feeling her heart flutter at his words. "Yeah," she murmured. "It doesn't."

There was a quiet moment between them, where everything felt perfectly still, like they were in their own little bubble, separate from the world outside. Taylor could feel it — that spark, that undeniable connection that felt both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.

Before she could overthink it, Travis leaned forward slightly, his voice low but warm. "So... think I'm winning you over? To football, I mean."

She laughed, the sound soft and easy. "You're getting there. But you might have to keep trying."

"Oh, I plan on it," he said, his grin returning. "You're not getting rid of me that easily, Swift."

As the night went on, Taylor realized that maybe this wasn't just another fleeting connection. Maybe, just maybe, she had found someone who saw her for who she was beyond the fame, beyond the music. Someone who could walk alongside her in both the chaos and the calm.

And for the first time in a long time, that thought didn't scare her.

It felt like a promise.
