Shayla arrived at the library a few minutes early hoping to beat dally, her stomach fluttering nerves. She chose a table near the back, hoping for a bit of privacy. As she unpacked her books and laptop, she couldn't help but replay the events of the day in her mind. Working with Dally made her stomach uneasy with nerves, but she knew she needed to stay focused on the project.

Dally strolled in a few minutes later, looking as relaxed as ever. He spotted Shayla and made his way over, flashing her a warm smile. "Hey, sorry if I'm late," he said as he pulled out a chair. "Got caught up talking to Coach about the game this weekend." Shayla shook her head, trying to appear nonchalant. "No worries. I just got here myself."

They spent the first few minutes discussing the project guidelines and brainstorming ideas. Shayla was impressed by how quickly Dally grasped the concepts and contributed thoughtful suggestions. He really is a math boy, it turns out he is more than just a pretty face; he was genuinely smart and creative. "I think we should focus on the real-world applications of calculus," he suggested. "It'll make our project stand out."

Shayla agreed, feeling a sense of relief. "That's a great idea. We could look into how calculus is used in engineering or even in sports analytics." Dally's eyes lit up at the mention of sports. "Yeah, I like that. We could analyze player statistics and performance metrics. It would be really cool to see the math behind it all." Shayla smiled, grateful that they had found common ground so quickly.

As they worked, Shayla found herself relaxing and enjoying Dally's company. He was easy to talk to and had a way of making her feel comfortable. They shared stories about their favorite teachers, their plans for the future, and even a few embarrassing moments from their past. By the time they wrapped up for the evening, Shayla felt like her and Dally who she nicknamed 'math boy' were starting to become friends. Though they knew each other for years they've never bothered to speak to one another.

Before they parted ways, Dally suggested they meet again the next day to continue their work. "How about we grab some coffee and then head back here?" he proposed. Shayla agreed, feeling a warm glow of happiness. As she walked home, she couldn't help but think that this project was turning out to be much more than just an assignment. It was the beginning of a friendship, and possibly something more.
