The sun is beating down on my skin as I lean over the railing of the lifeguard tower, lazily surveying the beach below. People are building sandcastles, playing volleyball, and sunbathing. The use of fire pits sends black smoke into the air. I catch a whiff of the coconut-scented sunscreen on my skin, before looking out into the water and noticing people surfing out in the distance.
It's around two in the afternoon and today has been the hottest day so far this summer. My shift ends soon, and fortunately, not a lot of people needed my help today. I just finished patrolling and now have some time to myself. I can't wait to get out of this unbearable heat and take a nap at home. Maybe I'll get some ice cream after work to cool down.
This swimsuit is becoming uncomfortable and the sand in my bathing suit is starting to chafe my skin. The sun reflecting off this bright red swimsuit is almost enough to blind me.
"Isn't that guy drowning?" I hear someone yell nearby, trying to catch my attention.
I quickly snap out of my thoughts and look over at two guys towering over someone flailing in the water. My eyes widen as I rush down the stairs, making my way over to the scene in the suspiciously shallow water. I hear him yell 'help' a few times as I get closer. The cold water reaches the middle of my thigh, causing me to shiver as I watch someone splash around below me, wondering if this is even deep enough for a grown man to drown in.
His friends chuckle as I lean down, sliding my arms under his shoulders to grab him while using most of my strength to pull him out, just enough for him to catch his breath. He dramatically coughs a few times before mumbling, "Thank you."
"Miss lifeguard," one of them jokes before I turn my head, glancing at the guy with the light brown mullet, "I think he needs mouth-to-mouth." He winks at me. He and the other guy begin to laugh, ignoring their friend with furrowed brows still in my arms.
The one still in the water looks up at him before yelling, "fuck you! Suck my dick."
I attempt to keep my composure, but I can't stop myself from laughing. "It's okay to stand up now," I state as I let go of him, acknowledging and hinting that he could have been standing this entire time.
He uses my arms to help himself stand up, stabilizing his feet on the sand as his face flushes a light red. His eyes frantically glance around, embarrassed by his overreaction from being in water that he is incapable of drowning in at all.
"Sorry," the same guy with the light brown hair apologizes, "I pushed him into the water, but I didn't expect him to do whatever the fuck he just did."
"No problem," I say with a cheerful smile, "it gave me a small break." It was also funny, but I would never admit that during my shift. Being in the water allows me to cool off for a few moments.
I glance between all of the guys surrounding me, taking note of their appearances. The one who's been joking around is taller than the rest and has an ash brown mullet. He's wearing light blue swim trunks with black palm trees printed all over. His intense brown eyes pierce through my skin and he has a neatly trimmed goatee. He has his ears and left eyebrow pierced. The apparent drowning victim has a gray buzzcut, but nothing too noticeable besides his neon blue swim trunks with pink flamingos on it.
I turn my head to look at the last guy, paying attention to his dark brown hair thrown into a disheveled bun. His sharp teal eyes are softly looking over, fixated on me while remaining silent. His strong jawline adds to his captivating appearance. My eyes are locked on him, noticing his nose piercing before trailing down to his broad shoulders and glancing at his muscular chest. Droplets of water pool between his abs and dark red swim trunks sit on his hips.
