The last of what remained of the oleanders ashes and mangled stems was now being washed away by heavy rainfall, the spring's rainy season settling over the nation. Wade didn't quite under why his chest seemed to feel tighter at the sight, as he stared out the stain-glass windows of the castle chapel.
It had been about a week now since James had been arrested, and it seemed as though Wade had intentionally been left in the dark about the incident. Castle staff would wince and give the prince a dismissive or vague answer whenever he inquired about the old farmhand.
They knew something. Something he wasn't allowed to know. The question was... why?
A quick slap on the back made Wade quickly advert his eyes away from the fields. The prince didn't stagger, standing solid as he glanced over his shoulder and down at the man behind him— his father.
"Stand straight. He's about to arrive." The king commanded, his voice a low growl.
Wade did as he was told with a blank expression, straightening to his full height, which made him tower over just about everyone in the room. Their company consisted of a handful of guards, the king and himself, but there was one more they were waiting on...
The grand double-doors of the chapel parted, welcoming their neighbouring kingdom's ruler, John Howlett Sr. King John, though dawned in expensive threads, wasn't exactly a sigh to behold. He appeared aged by stress rather than by time, with salt and pepper hair and brows seemingly permanently furrowed.
Wade's father stepped forward to greet the fellow beta ruler with a firm handshake, neither bowing to the other.
"King John, me and my son welcome you to our kingdom and home." Said King Thomas Wilson, who stepped aside to gesture at the crown prince.
The weary gaze shot Wade's way didn't go unnoticed by the prince. He held the neighbouring king's gaze, appearing visibly uninterested with his arms crossed tightly over his chest.
King John was first to look away, shifting uncomfortably in place.
"And what of your omega son..?"
A wicked smirk flashed across Wade's face.
"What of me..?" Wade asked, his head tilted in feigned innocence.
King John audibly swallowed. His eyes went wide with disbelief, dancing all over the prince's form in a desperate attempt to find what of Wade made him an omega.
"Ah yes..." King Thomas' voice wavered, then attempted to clear up the confusion. "This is the omega crown prince, my son, Wade Wilson."
"I-I see..."
A brief, uncomfortable silence filled the room for but a moment as King John seemed to absorb the shocking information.
"And where about is your son..?" Wade's father suddenly blurted, feeling the need to fill the air and shift the subject.
"Still receiving his punishment." King John replied gruffly.
That made Wade's ears perk up with interest.
He had heard a stories in passing that the feral prince had a tendency to disappear for prolonged periods of time, another reason the neighbouring king seemed to be pushing for their union. King John seemed to believe, or at least hoped, that a bond with an omega would tie his son down.
Doubtful, Wade's mind countered.
"Well, our documentation is all in order. Can I assume yours is as well..?" King Thomas inquired, snapping his fingers and motioning for a servant to bring forth the marital documents.
