Every day she followed the same routine: wake up at 7 a.m., grab a coffee from the local café, and sit at her desk by 9 a.m. to start coding for the day. Life felt predictable and, in a way, safe. One evening, after an especially long day at work, Lena decided to take a different route home. She wandered through the dimly lit streets of her small town, the night air heavy with the scent of rain. Her thoughts drifted to the recurring dreams she'd been having lately. Dreams of a man, always out of reach, shrouded in shadows.

Suddenly, the screech of tires brought her back to reality. A sleek black car sped around the corner, stopping just inches from where Lena stood. The door swung open, and a man stepped out. Tall, with dark hair and piercing green eyes, he exuded an air of danger. His gaze locked on Lena for a brief moment, before he quickly looked away, as if something about her unnerved him.

"I'm sorry," the man muttered, his voice deep and rough. "I didn't see you."

"It's... it's fine," Lena stammered, though her heart was racing. Something about him felt familiar, but she couldn't place it.

The man hesitated, then slid back into his car, disappearing into the night. Lena stood there, breathless, feeling as if the shadows from her dreams had just come to life.

The next day at work, Lena couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. As she sipped her coffee, Julia plopped down beside her.

"You look like you've seen a ghost," Julia teased, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. "What's up?"

Lena hesitated, then told Julia about the man from the previous night. "It was strange. He looked at me like he knew me... but I've never seen him before."

Julia's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Sounds like fate! Maybe it's a sign, Lena. You need to get out more, meet new people, have some adventure."

Lena rolled her eyes. "I don't need adventure. I just want to figure out why I can't stop thinking about this guy."

Later that evening, Lena walked home the same way, hoping for another glimpse of the mysterious man. As if on cue, she spotted him across the street, leaning against a lamppost, talking to someone on the phone. She couldn't hear the conversation, but the tension in his body language was unmistakable.

Before she could think, she crossed the street. "Hey!" she called out.

He turned, surprised to see her again. "You again," he said with a smirk. "Are you following me?"

"No," Lena replied, her cheeks flushing. "I just... I wanted to ask. Who are you?"

The man paused, then sighed, his expression softening. "Ethan. Ethan Blackwell."

Over the next few weeks, Lena found herself inexplicably drawn to Ethan. They met several times, each encounter leaving her with more questions than answers. "Because I want to stop running," Ethan said, his voice cracking. "And for some reason, I think you can help me."

"You're going after him?" Lena asked, her voice shaking.
