you sit on the stone bench gazing around you at the beautiful nature that surrounds you; it's finally spring. the chilling cold from the harsh winter before has subsided, giving way to a warm, colourful, vibrant, stunning burst of life. the garden's trees are blooming with soft blossoms and the pathways and roads are lined with green grass and reaching branches. you watch as people walk past you, also enjoying the gentle weather. you sigh as you prepare to stand up and go on your way, but then you see somebody sit down next you you out of the corner of your eye.
you keep your head facing slightly away from them, trying to tell if they're there for you or not. after a few moments of nothing, you decide to stand up and begin to head home. after walking a few meters from the bench, however, you hear footsteps on the dirt path behind you, sounding rapid. you turn your head to look and see the person who'd sat down next to you, approaching you, seemingly holding something.
"excuse me!" you hear him say as he nears you. you stop walking and turn completely to face him. as you get a good look at him, you take note of his chiseled physique, visible even through his clothing, his stern yet soft eyes, focused on you as he reaches you. he extends out his hand, holding a small pendant you quickly identify as one of yours. "i believe you dropped this."
you smile, a bit sheepishly. "oh, thank you so much!" you accept the pendant, a bit warm from him holding it.
he nods. "of course."
"um, i'm sorry for troubling you like this," you say as you briefly examine the pendant. it appears undamaged, and you sigh with relief as you pocket it. the hot man shakes his head.
"no need to apologize, it's no bother, really. you have a nice rest of your day, now," he gives you a warm smile as he turns and walks away. you watch him walk away, and your eyes slowly drift down a bit... and you forget to respond until he's too far away to hear you. you silently curse yourself as you turn to continue walking home. The entire walk, and the entire night, you can't stop thinking about the beautiful stranger who went out of his way to return something to you.
~one week later~ ~
you enter your favourite local market to purchase some goods for dinner. you don't have very much money to spend but you should at the very least have enough to buy the proper ingredients. you look around, attempting to identify which aisle you should go down first. before you do so, though, you spot someone who makes your breath hitch. *drumroll* the sexy man from before.
you don't realize you're staring until he looks back at you. you feel your face heat up a bit as he catches you staring, and it warms even more as he sends you a smile. you smile back before hastily turning your face away to avoid his noticing your bright red cheeks. you decide to just walk down the nearest aisle and try your best to focus on shopping, but nothing this mundane could take your mind off of such an interaction. you keep your eyes on the stock, mindlessly scanning through them as you think about him. before you can shift your thoughts back onto your shopping, you notice someone turn the corner into the aisle and walk down it, slowing down as they get closer to you. you pretend to not notice, keeping your eyes firmly on the shelves. you reach out and grab a bag of rice, placing it in your own bag, and turn to walk in the opposite direction of the person, before you hear that same voice from before, calm and... slightly teasing?
"ignoring me now, are you?" he says, and you can feel his eyes on you. you turn back around, looking at him.
"hm? oh, no, i'm not ignoring you, i'm sorry.!" you say, realizing he can probably tell quite easily that you're not being completely truthful. "i didn't notice you.!" he quirks an eyebrow at you and you feel your cheeks heat up again. but it seems he decides not to press, instead switching his gaze to your bag.
"what will you be cooking?" he asks, gesturing to it.
"oh, just a, uh, just a simple family recipe, nothing special." you silently curse yourself for speaking so awkwardly, especially in front of such a hot guy. he seems amused, however, and after a moment he extends his hand to you.
"i'm shang." he says, his voice smooth and warm.
you reach out and shake his hand, smiling timidly. "i'm y/n, it's nice to meet you-.. again.." you internally demolish what's left of your self-esteem, ridiculing yourself for daring to utter such a stupid sentence.
but shang just chuckles a bit and smiles. "it's nice to meet you again, too, y/n." for some reason, hearing him say your name makes you a bit flustered, but you try to keep yourself composed.
you both pause for a moment, and you glance at your bag before speaking again, somehow even more timidly than before. "...if you'd like, um.. you could.. c-come over for dinner.?" you keep your gaze stiffly off of him, instantly regretting asking such a blunt question. his momentary silence only makes your anxiety a thousand times worse. but then...
"well, if you wouldn't mind having me, i'd love to." you don't move for a second, brain stuttering as it tries to process what you just heard.
"...really.?" you ask, surprised that someone like him would accept such an offer from someone like you.
"of course, i'd love to try your cooking. i'm sure it's phenomenal." you can almost see your brain getting fuzzy as he speaks. you can't find words that would sound right so you simply nod before glancing around the store a bit.
"i-i need to find the rest of the ingredients, but it shouldn't take long, and then we can go, is that alright?" you glance at him for a moment, and you can't help but admire his eyes, his hair, his face, his jaw, his-
"that's perfectly fine, don't worry." his voice snaps you out of your thoughts and you nod, forcing yourself to turn back to the shelves. you quickly gather all the ingredients you need and pay before you and shang exit the shop, you leading him to your house. you chat on the walk there, and you become a bit more comfortable near him as you learn more about him. it seems as though nothing could possibly be wrong with this beautiful hunk of man.
as you approach your home, you realize it would probably be wise to warn him of something. "oh, um.." you turn to look at him, and he looks back at you as you speak, making your heart beat faster as you try to speak a coherent sentence. "just so you know, my family, um.. can be a bit.. overwhelming, especially with new people, so.."
"don't worry, i think i can handle it." he says with an almost teasing smile, and you look away to maintain your composure. you nod a bit and step up to the front door, sliding it open and inviting shang inside before going in yourself. the house is unusually quiet as you take your shoes off, but as soon as you enter the dining room, you see your younger brother. as soon as he notices you, he leaps up and is about to run to you when he spots shang. he stares blankly for a moment before bolting towards the two of you and immediately bombarding shang with a million unrelenting questions.
