This Love (Naturals One shots)

Here we go Again..Part 1

                            (Tanner Briggs POV of chapter 6 and what happens after Cassie leaves )

         Whenever the Director Called me and told me the details I didn't believe it was true, she should have called she would have called me if it wasn't for the incident.

"Ronnie."

"Briggs," My last name really? Ronnie didn't even look like herself her usual baggy jeans and low (I really couldn't care less what you think about me) ponytail replaced with a power suit and tight bun that made her look prepared for war. I had only seen her dress like that when she was trying to gain her father's or Professor's approval back when we were in college. 

"I assume the director briefed you." Her voice was so pointed and calm I would assumed we  had never even had a full length conversation neither wise been married.

"You could have called." It hurt being treated like an afterthought because before the divorce, before the marriage we were friends one of the only people I had in my life and then she just walked out like everyone else.

"Cassie" I stuttered suddenly. Jesus, She's  making me not even think straight anymore and she just got here, I  completely forgot Cassie was there and I don't need to give her anymore extra reasons to profile me and meddle into my business like last Summer.

"I see you've met Agent Sterling."

"We met last night." I wasn't blind like these kids thought I was. I could tell she was profiling me. She had the same look on her face when Ronnie used to do it without even realizing it. When you're dating a natural profiler you get used to it.

"How's Mackenzie?" Cassie asks abruptly distracting me from my thoughts. I started smiling even though sometimes I wanted to bang my head against a wall because of this job It was still my passion and I wouldn't trade it for anything, well maybe one thing. 

"She's home. She'll need a lot of support going forward , but she'll make it . The kid's a survivor." Turning my head to Veronica "The Naturals program just closed its second cold case this month," pausing I let my words hang in the air checking Veronica's face to see what she was thinking " A child abduction." 

Even though Ronnie was determined to fix this program I had full faith in my naturals not that I'd ever let them hear that. I didn't need to feel threatened no matter what Ronnie said. The Naturals program was saving lives. 

"Impressive," Was her quick reply, making it clear she thought it was anything but. 

"Especially considering that the only two children have been hospitalized because of this program and, really, only one of them was actually shot, so clearly that all just comes out in the wash." Dammit, Michael and Dean those two were going to give me a permanent migraine, let's be honest all of them were going to give me a permanent migraine. 

"Cassie, why don't you go see what the others are doing? I know I would have rebelled if my younger self heard an authority figure talk to me like that. I practically told her to "run away and play" but I've never been the best with kids, that's why I have Judd here.And take it from me there is no one better than Judd Hawkins when it comes to parenting, he took me in when I had no one. Even though he's never  really  trusted me, he would still look out for me. Him and Scarlet were like my saviors without them I wouldn't have met Veronica and who knows what I would've done to myself. 

  "I don't care if you've solved a million cases with your precious Naturals this isn't safe and  you're putting these kids lives in danger"

But who knows what I'm going to do to myself right now I stiffed a sigh before I replied "Veronica they're fine I wanna talk about you."

"Me? No that not why I'm here Briggs! Im here to make sure those kids, like Dean who have been through so much don't break."

"They are perfectly fine!  I wanna tell about how you aren't."

She rolled her eye at me before her swift reply "I am perfectly fine." Way too fast for my liking.

"Yeah, because perfectly fine people just leave in the middle of the night with no trace and no clues on where to find them!" I spat my reply at her.

Veronica got very quiet for a moment and then an explosion happened.

"Thats not fair! You knew I had to leave! It was all my fault. Everything is still my fault and I need to fix this and you are not going to stop me."Before I could reply I got a call for a case and left the room hoping Veronica wouldn't follow me but I knew her; I still know her. So she was most likely going to come with me not leaving anything alone. When that woman set her mind on something you could bet she was going to achieve it. I felt my migraine coming back. Here we go again.

NOTES: Hi I hoped you liked this! This is my first writing I've ever publicly published so if you have any tips for improvement I would love to hear them! And again I would love suggestions for new naturals content especially striggs. They are so underrated I'll write more about them but if you have anymore ideas please share with me🙏. Also if you could comment literally anything this will help me continue (I will most likely continue for my pleasure but I would still love to hear your thoughts. Can't wait till the next one!!!
