The private jet seated twelve, but when I stepped into the plane only five of those seats were filled. Agents Sterling and Briggs sat at the front of the plane, on opposite sides of the aisle. She was looking at a file. He was looking at his watch. All business I thought.

Last night wasn't a mistake right? The unexpected hook-up had begun as a desperate attempt to reconnect, a fleeting moment of vulnerability driven by nostalgia. They had laughed over wine, reminiscing about their life before everything fell apart—before Scarletts Death, the separation, and the silence that echoed in their once-happy home. But now, faced with the reality of their situation, I could feel the weight of regret mix with nostalgia.
"Are we really doing this?" My voice broke the silence, my tone a mix of annoyance and amusement.
"Doing what?" Ronnie asked , though she knew exactly what I meant.
"Pretending like last night didn't happen," I replied, arching an eyebrow.
"Because if you think I'm going to ignore the fact that we-"
"I know what happened Tanner!" she whispered yelled "but we can't let the others know we need to be professional coworkers," Ronnie said, forcing a smile.
"The last thing we need is for them to sense something's off between us."
"Right," I muttered, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Because what's more professional than sleeping with your ex-husband before a case?"
The words hung in the air, a bittersweet reminder of their past. I turned to look out the window, trying to distract from the familiar warmth that crept back into his chest. It was infuriating how easily he could fall back into the softness of her gaze, just as it had been infuriating how quickly she had pierced through his carefully constructed barriers.
"Let's just focus, okay?" She replied, her tone firmer than before. "We need to brief the team."
Notes: I definitely think that they would not be able to resist each other but idk what do you think?? Ps hope you like this I'm going to try and post tomorrow this is so much fun!!
