As the weeks wore on, the tension in Slytherin only grew thicker. I kept thinking about my talk with Blaise. He'd told me not to trust anyone from Slytherin, but I couldn't be friendless for the whole year I needed to attempt to make the best of this. Even though the students were whispering more than usual, glancing around suspiciously, as if they were waiting for something to happen. There was an air of secrecy, of something lurking just beneath the surface. And I couldn't shake the feeling that I was caught in the middle of it.
It all came to a head one night, when I overheard something, I was never meant to hear. I'm rethinking the thing about making friends with these people.
I had been wandering the castle late, unable to sleep. The corridors were quiet, the only sound the soft flicker of torches lighting the way. I was near the Astronomy Tower when I heard voices—low, urgent, and unmistakably familiar voices.
I froze, stepping back into the shadows as I listened.
"We can't keep doing this," a voice hissed. "It's too risky."
"We don't have a choice," Draco's voice replied, sharp and commanding. "If we don't, everything falls apart."
My heart raced. I peered around the corner, just enough to see Draco standing with a few other Slytherins, their faces obscured in the dim light.
"You know what's at stake," Draco continued, his voice low and dangerous. "We have to be careful. If they find out, we're all screwed."
"What about her?" one of the others asked, their voice barely audible.
Draco paused, his expression hardening. "She doesn't matter. As long as she stays out of our way, we'll deal with her later."
My blood ran cold. Were they talking about me? What the hell was going on?
Before I could process what, I was hearing, one of the Slytherins looked around, his eyes narrowing. "Someone's here."
I held my breath, my heart pounding in my chest as I pressed myself further into the shadows.
Draco tensed, his hand moving to his wand. "Who's there?" he called out, his voice sharp with suspicion.
I didn't move, didn't even breathe. The corridor was dead silent, and for a moment, I thought I might be caught.
But then, after a long pause, Draco lowered his wand. "It's nothing," he muttered, turning back to the others. "Let's go. We'll talk more later."
They moved quickly down the corridor, their footsteps echoing in the distance as I remained frozen in place, my mind racing.
Whatever Draco was involved in, it was dangerous. And I had just stumbled into something I had no business being a part of.
After that night I decided to try and just stay out of everything that's going on with that. The only thing I needed to be focused on was my study's but like I said I can't go the whole school year friendless, so I've made the decision to attempt to make friends with some reliable Slytherins. My brain was still spinning about what I heard.
Like what girl they were talking about? and what's at stake? I needed to get my mind off of all of it I've only been in this school for approximately three weeks, and it's been miserable. I've been made fun of tripped up, dumped food on, most hated Slytherin, no friends. All because I'm a transfer? I think there's more to the story on why everyone hates me here. It didn't help that Draco seemed more intense than ever. His usual taunts had an edge to them now, as if he was testing me, waiting for me to slip up. Every glance, every smirk, felt like a challenge.
One evening, I was in the common room, trying to focus on my homework, when Draco approached me. He sat down across from me, his gaze cold and calculating.
"You've been awfully quiet lately," he said, his voice casual, but his eyes sharp.
I shrugged, keeping my expression neutral. "Just busy."
Draco leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "Busy doing what? Eavesdropping?"
My heart skipped a beat, but I forced myself to remain calm. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb," he said, his voice dangerously low. "I know you were there. Near the Astronomy Tower. You heard something you shouldn't have."
I swallowed hard, my mind racing. "I didn't hear anything," I lied, hoping he couldn't see through me.
Draco's eyes darkened, and for a moment, I thought he might call me out on it. But then he leaned back, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Careful, Y/N." He exited out and when he left, I felt like I could breathe but how? How did he know I was there? What did he mean be careful? God why was this all so confusing.
