Part 24: Rishab's Eighth Month of Pregnancy
Three months later, Rishab entered his eighth month of pregnancy, and the excitement surrounding the impending birth of the kingdom's heir was palpable. As the baby's arrival drew closer, life in the palace and the village seemed to revolve around preparations, celebration, and the anticipation of welcoming the new member of the royal family.
A Growing Belly, A Growing Bond
Rishab's belly had grown considerably, and with it, the movements of the baby inside became more pronounced. Every little kick or stretch filled him with a sense of wonder, reminding him of the miracle growing within. Shreyas, ever attentive and protective, was by his side through every moment, making sure that Rishab was comfortable and cared for.
One evening, as they sat in their bedroom, Shreyas rested his head against Rishab's belly, smiling as he felt the baby's kicks.
"Do you think they'll be this active when they're born?" Shreyas asked, his voice filled with warmth and curiosity.
Rishab chuckled softly. "I think we're in for quite the energetic little one. But I can't wait to meet them."
Shreyas placed a gentle kiss on Rishab's belly. "Neither can I."
Preparing for the Birth
As Rishab's due date approached, the palace was abuzz with preparations. The nursery, which they had carefully designed together, was finally complete. The mural on the wall depicted scenes of love and unity, reflecting the values they hoped to pass on to their child. Soft, pastel-colored fabrics adorned the room, and toys and books filled the shelves, waiting for the little one's arrival.
Shreyas, while still tending to his royal duties, made sure to take time off to be with Rishab as much as possible. He often accompanied him to his doctor's appointments, where they monitored the baby's health and Rishab's progress.
During one visit, the doctor smiled as she performed an ultrasound. "The baby is healthy and growing beautifully. You two will be meeting them very soon."
Rishab squeezed Shreyas's hand, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. "I can't believe how close we are," he whispered.
Shreyas kissed the back of Rishab's hand. "We're ready for this, Rishab. You've been incredible through all of this, and I can't wait to start this next chapter with you."
Shreyas's Protective Nature
As the months passed, Shreyas became even more protective of Rishab. Though Rishab was eager to stay involved in the daily life of the palace, Shreyas was adamant about ensuring he didn't overexert himself.
"Rishab, let me handle that," Shreyas would say whenever he saw his husband trying to carry something or assist with chores around the palace.
Rishab would often roll his eyes and laugh. "I'm pregnant, Shreyas, not completely helpless."
"I know," Shreyas would reply with a teasing grin. "But I still want to make sure you're as comfortable as possible. You're carrying the most precious thing in the world-our child."
Rishab couldn't help but smile at Shreyas's protective nature. Despite his playful protests, he appreciated how much care Shreyas put into making sure he was always looked after.
The Village's Support
The people of the village continued to offer their support as well. Every day, gifts arrived at the palace-handmade blankets, tiny clothes, and thoughtful letters wishing them a safe and happy delivery. Rishab was deeply touched by the love and care from the villagers, who had become like extended family to him and Shreyas.
One day, the village midwife came to the palace to discuss the birth plan. "Everything is progressing smoothly," she said after examining Rishab. "When the time comes, we'll have everything ready, and I'll be here to assist you through the process."
Rishab felt a wave of relief. "Thank you. It helps to know that we're in good hands."
The midwife smiled warmly. "The whole kingdom is eagerly awaiting the arrival of this baby. You're not just bringing a child into the world-you're bringing hope and joy to everyone."
Quiet Moments of Reflection
As the days passed and Rishab grew heavier with each passing week, the couple found themselves taking more quiet moments together, reflecting on the journey they had shared.
One night, they sat on the balcony of their chambers, looking out over the kingdom they had worked so hard to unite. The cool breeze of the night air felt refreshing, and the stars above twinkled brightly.
Shreyas wrapped his arm around Rishab, pulling him close. "Do you ever think about what life will be like when the baby's here?" he asked softly.
"All the time," Rishab replied, leaning his head on Shreyas's shoulder. "It's hard to imagine, but I know it's going to be incredible. We've come so far together, and now we get to raise a child in this world we've helped create."
Shreyas kissed the top of Rishab's head. "I can't wait to see you as a parent. You're going to be amazing."
"And you'll be a wonderful father," Rishab said with a smile. "This baby is lucky to have you."
In that moment, they both felt the overwhelming love that had carried them through all their challenges. They knew that the road ahead would have its ups and downs, but they were ready to face it together.
Looking Ahead
As Rishab entered the final stretch of his pregnancy, the anticipation of meeting their child grew stronger with each passing day. The palace was ready, the kingdom was ready, and more importantly, Rishab and Shreyas were ready. They had built a foundation of love and support, not just for themselves but for their growing family.
And soon, very soon, they would welcome the heir to the kingdom-a child born of love, unity, and hope.
