Ethan wandered through the gardens, restless. No matter how hard he tried, sleep escaped him. The air of Elaria felt heavy tonight, as if the very realm was urging him to act on the promises he'd been told were his destiny. He found himself near the secluded pool, the moonlight casting shimmering reflections on the water. Just as he decided to sit and clear his head, he saw a familiar figure nearby.

Amara was by the pool’s edge, her feet dipped in the water, her soft humming barely audible. She looked peaceful, unaware of his presence. He hesitated before stepping closer.

“Can’t sleep either?” he asked softly.

Amara looked up, startled for a moment before smiling. “It’s peaceful out here. Helps me think.”

Ethan sat beside her, letting out a sigh. “I wish it did the same for me. My thoughts are a mess.”

Amara tilted her head. “Still troubled by your role here?”

He nodded, staring at the ripples in the water. “I didn’t ask for any of this. And yet, here I am. Expected to... father children, bond with the women. It’s overwhelming.”

Amara was silent for a moment, then spoke, her tone soft but curious. “Do you ever wonder what it would be like?”

Ethan blinked, surprised by her question. “What do you mean?”

“To be that close to someone. To experience the union like the scrolls describe.” Amara’s cheeks flushed slightly. “We’re told it’s sacred, that it’s not just physical. But none of us really know.”

Ethan’s heart began to pound. He could feel the weight of her words, the unspoken curiosity that lingered in the air between them. “I’ve thought about it,” he admitted quietly, his voice almost a whisper. “But it’s... complicated.”

Amara’s gaze softened. “I can imagine. You have so much responsibility. And it’s not easy, having such expectations placed on you.”

Ethan shook his head. “It’s more than that. The union isn’t just about fulfilling some prophecy. It’s about trust, connection. But... I don’t know if I’m ready for any of it.”

Amara hesitated, then spoke again, her voice more tentative. “Could you show me?”

Ethan’s breath caught. “Show you?”

She nodded, her cheeks reddening. “I’ve always wondered what it’s like. What it feels like to be that close. You don’t have to... do anything. Just show me.”

Ethan was quiet for a long moment, his thoughts racing. This wasn’t what he expected. Yet, as he looked into her eyes, he saw the same curiosity he felt—the same desire to understand. Slowly, he reached out, taking her hand.

“I... okay,” he said, his voice hesitant. “But this is just a demonstration. Nothing more.”

Amara smiled softly, her eyes filled with trust. “I understand.”

Ethan stood, pulling her up gently. He could feel the warmth of her hand in his, her closeness stirring something within him. He placed his hands on her waist, his fingers brushing against her skin. Amara’s breath hitched slightly, but she didn’t pull away.

“This is how it starts,” Ethan whispered, his lips close to her ear. “You get close. Feel the connection.”

Amara shivered, her body responding to his touch. “It feels... different. Like something is pulling us together.”

Ethan nodded, his voice low. “It’s more than just physical. It’s about trust.”

He ran his hands gently along her sides, his touch light but firm. Amara gasped softly, her fingers tightening around his arms. “What happens next?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ethan hesitated, feeling the tension between them grow. “Then... you let the moment guide you.”

He leaned in, their foreheads nearly touching, the warmth of her breath mingling with his. Amara closed her eyes, her heart racing as she leaned into him. Their lips brushed, just for a moment, before Ethan pulled back, his breath unsteady.

Amara’s eyes fluttered open, her gaze searching his. “Why did you stop?”

Ethan swallowed hard, trying to steady his thoughts. “Because... this isn’t just about showing you. It’s about what comes after.”

Amara looked down, her cheeks flushing. “I see.”

There was a long pause before Ethan spoke again. “I’m not sure if I’m ready for all of this. But when the time comes, it’s important that it’s right.”

Amara nodded, her voice soft. “I trust you, Ethan. You’ll know when the time is right.”

Ethan gave her a faint smile, feeling a sense of relief. “I hope so.”

They stood in silence for a moment, the tension easing. Amara stepped back slightly, her eyes lingering on him before she turned to leave.

“I’ll see you tomorrow?” she asked, her tone lightening.

Ethan nodded. “Yeah. Tomorrow.”

As she walked away, Ethan watched her go, feeling the weight of the moment lift. There was still so much to learn, so much to understand about himself and his role here. But for now, he felt a little closer to figuring it out.
