The day went by like a breeze as soon as our first class ended. Celine shared the next class with me and continued her day as I returned to my dorm, sprawled out on my bed with many assignments to tackle. College life was a pain in my fat behind, and I was not ready to deal with what it had to offer today.

"Bro, this much reading should actually be filed as a crime." I groaned, flipping through my psych textbook. "They must think we don't have lives." I stared at my desk, which had a stack of books and notes like they were sentient creatures plotting my downfall.

Natalie glanced over from her desk, giving me a slight smirk. "The teachers with nothing to do always give out the most work. Welcome to college, Nai. It's all about finding that delicate balance between being an academic weapon and trying to have a social life." Her face was buried in a mound of coffee cups and notebooks.

I sighed, propping myself up on my elbows. "Well, easy for you to say. You're a natural even though you look like a hot mess most of the time."

"Wow, I'm so flattered," Natalie said sarcastically, pushing back her dark hair and revealing her pierced brow. "It's bad enough I got this much work. I have a night shift at the library tonight, and they always manage to schedule me during the most obnoxious and boring hours."

"Girl, good luck. Maybe you'll get to help someone with their overdue fines or listen to someone complain about their book being lost." I said, wrinkling my nose.

We continued talking for a little while before I greeted that little alarm going off in my head that I was forgetting something.

I checked my phone, my eyes widening, and realized I was 20 minutes behind on time. "Crap, I'm late. We'll continue this tonight. See you later, my beautiful, sleep-deprived roommate."

Grabbing my bag, I slipped on some shoes, rushed out of the dorm, and headed to the bus stop to meet Jade at the campus cafeteria. I sighed in relief, finding a seat on the bus before it took off to the next stop. I swear these bus drivers act like Grand Theft Auto drivers, speeding through these streets, not even thinking if they'll hit a little ole' student crossing the road.

I rested my arm on the mini ledge against the window as we drove past the campus. It was buzzing with activity, students rushing to and from classes, some lounging on the grass in the common areas, and others chatting in groups walking along the sidewalks. It was a typical college scene, and I enjoyed seeing it every single time.

The bus stopped, and I hopped off. Sliding my bag onto my shoulder, I strolled the street to the cafe, hoping they had a good lunch menu. I spotted Celine sitting at our usual table, her ginger hair catching the sunlight. She waved as I approached, a smile on her face.

"Hey, girly." She gave me a quick but sweet greeting as I plopped in the chair across from her. "How's your day going so far?"

"Just the usual college chaos mixed with me wanting to kill myself everytime I get a new update for an assignment." I leaned back in my chair, spreading my legs. A sigh drew from my lips as she nodded. "But seeing you does make life a little better."

She laughed, taking a sip from her drink—probably a Doctor Pepper because she loves those. So do I, and I will not tolerate slander; if you have any comments, concerns, or feedback, take it to HR.

"Man, flattery will get you anywhere. So tell me, do you have any updates on the cute mystery guy from this morning?"

I rolled my eyes, thinking back on the interaction. "Nothing yet, but I don't want to think about it. My brain already hurts enough. How are you doing, though? How's Mr. Julian?" I wiggled my brows. Julian is a fascinating topic for her.
