We get in line and walk through the gate, it leads us through a long hall full of windows. At the end is an escalator going up. There's no turning back now, I'm pretty sure they'd force me to go on if I tried to make a run for it. And having this place be located in a deserted part of the airport makes it hard for people to run away before they can drag them back. Okay maybe I'm over thinking that part they probably wouldn't care that much if people just didn't go on, but I rather not take my chances.
We get to the escalator and slowly step on, this part doesn't have any windows, the walls are just sparsely lined with fluorescent lights. They could have at least played some soft music or something, it's so quiet no one seems to want to break it for some reason. I look at my phone to see how long we've been in here, it feels like it's been an hour but it's only been two minutes. I look up and can faintly see the exit, this escalator ride is probably 5 minutes but it feels a lot longer.
We finally make it to the top and are greeted with a wide hallway leading directly to the ship. It reminds me a lot of the cruise ship we went on a few years ago. It looks like there's about 10 floors, the ship itself looks like it was purposely modelled after a cruise ship though it's like five times the size of one. We have about 200 people going on this ship yet it seems like it was built to hold thousands of people. What is all that extra space for?
When we finally step onto the ship I look around and see the crew dressed in neat red sailor uniforms with white trim on their shirts and the CEO's initials on the shirt pocket. The women wear white skirts with red trim on the bottom while the men wear white pants with red trim. They smile at us as we walk in, everything about them seems perfect. I wonder what made them choose to live on this ship with us. There isn't a way for them to get back to earth so they're stuck here working everyday. I guess for workaholics that might seem like a dream come true, but for regular people it sounds more like a nightmare.
We're led to the main entrance area, we're greeted by a grand staircase that leads further up on the ship. We ascend the stairs and are brought to a huge dining Hall. We are shown to our seats and watch the screen ahead. Once everyone is seated the lights dim and the screen turns on. Mr.M the CEO of PS company shows up on the screen.
Welcome everyone to the perfect society, our state of the art lifetime cruise ship to the stars. Our ship is equipped with everything you could possibly need, all your wants will be met at every hour of the day. This place is paradise, a relaxing cruise like experience for the rest of your lives. Every once in a while we will be able to contact earth, so don't worry about missing your loved ones back home. Sit back, relax , let our 24 hour staff take care of your every need. Enjoy your stay and remember paradise never ends.
I look around feeling really uneasy about the end of that message and see my parents as well as everyone else in our vicinity eagerly watching the screen. I look through the crowd and see Max rolling his eyes, at least I'm not the only person who's not buying into all this crap.
The screen turns off and we're all escorted to our rooms, we're told we need to stay inside for the rest of the day until the ship makes it into orbit. We walk through the halls and to the accommodation area. This ship really does look like a cruise ship, the carpet floors and pictures of the sea scattered on the walls. We make our way up a few flights of steps to our floor. I see the Choi family up ahead. They stop at a door and I'm surprised to see we've stopped right beside them, looks like I'm going to have a hacker for a neighbor.
We enter the room and are greeted by a spacious living room with a little kitchen in the corner. I wasn't expecting the room to be this big. There's a big sofa on the wall facing a flat screen tv, there's a bookshelf in the corner filled with various books and games .I look around and see three doors off to the side, I'm guessing those are our bedrooms and the bathroom.
