Chapter 1- Start of a change of fate
The Sun rose up over the horizon and started to shine through the window pane of a blonde teenagers bedroom. She started to stir and then stretched her arms out as the Sun began to shine brighter into her eyes. She growled and rolled over, pulling the blanket over her eyes to try to fall back asleep. Suddenly the smell of bacon and eggs begin to waft into her nose and she smiled at the pleasant aroma filling the air. She sighed, started to sit up in the bed then flung her legs off the side and began to walk towards the door. She quickly realized she was still in her pajamas and shook her head laughing at herself for nearly forgetting to change into regular clothes. She strolled over to the dresser, stepping over a light blue backpack and several pairs of pants and socks that were in her path. She opened the second drawer and pulled out a bra and socks, then took out a white tee and black sweatpants from the top drawer. She stepped over the things on the floor and threw the clothing onto the bed and began to remove her pajamas. Once those were fully off, she slipped on her fresh, clean clothing. With that finished, she strolled to the door, gripped the light blue fabric covered door knob and left the room. She came around the corner and strolled down the chestnut brown staircase, sliding her hand down the railing as she went down. Once she got to the bottom, she jumped off the bottom stair and onto the floor. She came around the corner and walked into the kitchen to be greeted with her best friend who was making the food that caused the amazing smell to drift up the stairs and into her nose. Her best friend was about three inches shorter than her (5'5), at 5'2, and weighed the same 125 as she did. She had long brown hair and bright orange eyes. She met her eyes with her own dark brown pupils and smiled as she took a plate off the counter and started to help herself to the bacon and eggs on the stove.
"Thank you, Sarai!" (Sa-Ray), Hayley exclaimed as she bit into delicious and sweet bacon.
It crunched perfectly in her mouth and tasted so savory. Sarai smiled and walked over the ivory tiled floor to the large two door fridge. She opened the fridge side and scanned the items inside in search of orange juice. Once she found it, she took it out then grabbed a cup out of the cabinet. She turned back and walked over to the island attached to the stove. Sarai poured herself a glass of orange juice and set the jug back down onto the island they were both standing beside. Hayley yawned and rubbed her freckled cheeks and eyelids.
"School delayed, right? Like we didn't miss any classes or anything, right?" Hayley asked with a slight tinge of fear lining her voice.
Sarai laughed and nodded at her.
"Yeah, it's been real nasty out! Not much visibility, especially for people driving!" Sarai shot back.
"Well Jeez, that's no good. I wonder if they will cancel us or not. If they cancel us, we'll have to get with Loxley and Braeden for a hang out day!!" Hayley said excitedly.
The rest of their morning was getting ready and watching the clock as they tried to wait as long as possible, before leaving for school, Hoping they would get a cancellation.
"Hey, Sarai, do you think we should skip today? Its pretty bad out right now, and I can't even really see very well!" Hayley quickly nodded at the clock gesturing to the time, before looking towards her best friend, with a worried expression.
"We should go anyway, and just be extra careful today. Who knows, maybe we will cancel on the way?" Sarai remarked with a wink at the last part.
Hayley nodded in agreement and headed upstairs with Sarai following behind her. Once they got upstairs, Sarai changed into a light blue short sleeve shirt with navy blue skinny jeans and black knee high flat heeled boots. Hayley changed into her navy blue long sleeve shirt with a white anchor on the front, light blue skinny jeans and ankle high, short heeled, leather boots. Hayley picked up her light blue backpack from the floor and proceeded to the door only to run straight into the oblivious Sarai who was staring off into space. They both fell to their butts and laughed when they realized what happened. Hayley rolled her eyes and stood up, offering Sarai a hand. Sarai took it and got up as well.
"Smooth move, dummy." Hayley remarked jokingly at Sarai who laughed as she searched the floor for her own dark purple backpack.
She finally found it lying behind Hayley's bed and shook her head not wanting to know how in the world it even ended up there. They finally made their way downstairs and left the large two story house. They made their way past the garden by the house and ran down the flight of stairs headed towards the road once they realized what the time was.
"Hey! You guys waited hoping for a cancel too??" A rushed male voice yelled from behind them.
Sarai looked around confused, unable to see through the dense fog. Hayley squinted and finally saw a short black haired, blue eyed male ran up to them.
"Oh hey, Braeden. Yeah, we waited hoping for a cancellation too. But alas, cruel fate..." Hayley said drawing out the emotionalness of the ending.
Sarai and Braeden laughed at her over dramatic description of not cancelling when they heard a ring of each of their phones. Everyone froze and reached for their phones as quickly as possible praying it was a cancel.
"Due to intense fog not clearing up and severe conditions for walkers and drivers alike, we have chosen to cancel school for today. Please be safe and have a wonderful day! We will see you all tomorrow, weather permitting." Sarai read her text out loud as they all high fived and cheered.
"Let's call up Loxley and see if he's up for going on an adventure! It's been quite a while!! I know a really cool trail behind the old junior high over on Mojaco St that apparently has a lot of cool stuff on it like old trains, tunnels and buildings from like 70 years ago! Does that sound good??" Hayley exclaimed looking around for reactions.
"That sounds awesome!! Let's do it!" Sarai cheered.
Braeden smiled and pulled his phone up, then called Loxley and explained the adventure plan for the day. Loxley agreed and they decided to meet up with him at the ol
d junior high.
