**Chapter Three: Unmasking the Truth**

The investigative team, now fully engaged in the web of mystery surrounding the masked Reaper, found themselves back in their car, parked in front of TideRoss High. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the campus as they prepared to meet Rosa, a student who had firsthand experience with a masked figure terrorizing her school.

Haley glanced at the school building, her mind racing with the implications of their findings so far. “So, what are we thinking? If the last Reaper was a prankster, maybe this one is taking revenge on people he hated?”

“That's what Rosa hinted at,” Icarus replied, his serious demeanor unwavering. “If we can figure out who this person hated, it might lead us to the next target.”

Tyler, ever the optimist, leaned back in his seat. “Or it could just lead us to another dead end. But hey, let’s roll with it! What’s the worst that could happen? We might get lucky, or at least get some more coffee out of this.”

Haley shot him a pointed look. “Can you try to be a little less flippant, Tyler? This is serious.”

“Fine, fine! Serious mode activated,” he replied, raising his hands in mock surrender.

As they exited the vehicle, the school’s energy enveloped them—students laughing, chatting, and hurrying to their afternoon classes. It was a stark contrast to the gravity of their mission. They navigated through the throngs of students until they spotted Rosa sitting on a bench near the entrance, her dark hair framing a worried expression.

“Rosa?” Haley called, and the girl looked up, her eyes wide with recognition.

“Yeah, that’s me,” she replied, standing up and brushing off her jeans. “You must be the reporters investigating the Reaper.”

“Guilty as charged,” Tyler quipped, stepping forward with a smile. “We hear you have some insight into a previous masked Reaper situation.”

Rosa nodded, her expression shifting to one of concern. “Yeah, but it’s not exactly a happy story. At TideRoss, a guy dressed up as the Reaper and scared everyone. It started as a prank but quickly turned into something more serious.”

“What do you mean?” Icarus asked, his eyes narrowing with interest.

“He targeted specific people,” Rosa explained, glancing around as if ensuring they were not overheard. “It seemed like he was going after people he hated—like those who bullied him. He got caught, but not before a lot of damage was done. We all thought he’d disappear after that, but now with this new Reaper, it feels like someone is trying to continue his legacy.”

Haley felt a chill run down her spine. “So, you think the current Reaper is targeting people based on personal vendettas?”

“Exactly,” Rosa said, her voice steadying. “If someone in our school thought they could get away with it, they might be trying to settle old scores. It’s like they’re using the Reaper mask to take revenge.”

Tyler raised an eyebrow. “That’s pretty dark. Do you have any idea who might be behind it?”

Rosa shook her head, her brow furrowing. “I don’t know. I mean, there were a few names tossed around, but nothing concrete. The guy who did it before was a total loner, but maybe he had friends who feel the same way. It’s not just about him anymore; it could be anyone wanting to settle a grudge.”

Icarus exchanged a glance with Haley, his expression thoughtful. “Do you know if there have been any recent arguments or confrontations among students? Anything that might point us toward a potential suspect?”

“There have been some fights, but nothing that stood out. People are on edge, especially after the news of the mayor’s son,” Rosa said. “But there’s this one group that was pretty vocal about how they felt towards him. They hated him because of the influence his family had over the school.”

Tyler perked up. “Interesting. Do they have a name, or should we start calling them ‘The Reapers’ too?”

“Very funny, Tyler,” Haley chided, then turned back to Rosa. “Can you get us the names of these students? We need to investigate further.”

“Yeah, I can do that,” Rosa replied, her expression turning serious. “But you have to promise to be careful. I don’t want to see anyone else hurt. This whole thing is way too dangerous.”

“Trust us, we know,” Icarus assured her, his voice firm. “We’re on it.”

As they gathered the names and exchanged contact information, the weight of their investigation began to settle on them. This was no longer just about a masked killer; it was about unraveling the personal vendettas that could lead to further violence.

“Thanks for your help, Rosa,” Haley said as they prepared to leave. “We’ll keep you posted on what we find out.”

“Good luck,” Rosa called after them, her voice laced with apprehension.

Once they were back in the car, Tyler broke the silence. “So, what’s the plan, Sherlock? Are we heading for a high school reunion?”

Icarus shot him a look. “We’re heading to the school to talk to these students. They might hold the key to figuring out who the Reaper is.”

“Great! I can blend in, fit right in with the teenage angst,” Tyler replied, flashing a grin. “Just don’t forget to let me do the talking. I’m basically a professional at handling high school drama.”

Haley couldn’t help but chuckle. “Just remember, Tyler, this is serious. We need information, not a comedy act.”

“Fine,” Tyler relented, feigning disappointment. “But I reserve the right to use my charm as needed.”

As they drove toward TideRoss High, the tension in the air was palpable. With every passing moment, the reality of the situation sank in deeper—the masked Reaper was out there, and with the clues they had gathered, they were closer than ever to unmasking the true villain behind the chaos. But with each step they took, the danger grew, and they knew that time was running out.
