"Princess?" Augustine smirked as one of my chambermaids opened the door

"Princess?" Augustine smirked as one of my chambermaids opened the door. She was flushed and raced out quickly. What was happening in this room before I knocked? Why was one of my ladies in here flushed all over? I couldn't let myself care, so I stood firm and slammed the book on his desk.

"How did you know my fondness for this book?" I snapped, and he leaned on the wall next to me. He was blocking the exit, and I felt my body tense as my father's letter raced through my mind. I left the necklace in my linen drawer, and I regretted it dearly.

"So, I was right about the book. I can tell because you are flushed. I have that effect on women," he winked as he moved closer, and I stumbled back, nearly falling on my behind.

"Why do you act as if I'm going to kill you?" He laughed at me, and I shoved him, gasping at my abrupt movement.

"I apologize, please excuse me," I rushed out and entered my room with haste. Leah begged to know where I had disappeared, but I ignored her pleas.

She dressed me in a form-fitting royal blue dress with slits down the side. My mother said I needed to make myself appealing to make sure they knew what great treasure they would be earning. I hated showing off my body, but I didn't get much choice in this matter. I made sure to wear my necklace this time, and it brought comfort as it lay just below my collarbone. I walked down the halls as music filled the castle, sweet violins and harps left echoing tunes. The smell of delicious food caught my attention as cinnamon and dark chocolate floated in the halls. I stood at the entrance as I took in everyone dancing and wearing luxurious clothing.

"Not too bad, is it?" My father whispered as he stood next to me with a proud grin. I wasn't sure if he was proud of himself or of me that I hadn't embarrassed them yet. He then straightened the necklace on me and smiled proudly.

"Father-"

"The inside is what counts," He winked before escorting me inside, and all eyes fell on me. We were announced, and he danced with me first, which I took such comfort in. Showing off our fine dance skills, but I cherished this moment most of all because I feared this might be the last dance we ever share. I knew this would probably be my last ball with him until my wedding, a wedding that might destroy me.

"May I cut in, your highness?" Hans asked, and my father handed me off politely as he smiled at me as if to give me courage. Others danced around us as the music echoed loudly. He kept trying to talk, but I had no idea what he was saying with his thick accent. His hand slid dangerously low, and his grip grew tight.

"You will be kind enough to loosen your grip, sir Hans." I kept my composure, but my tone was stern and sure. He gave me a big smile and leaned into my ear, making sure no one else could hear his words.
