As the classroom filled up with students, the usual pre-class chatter echoed through the room. Gino and I settled into our seats, still buzzing from our earlier conversations with Momo and Shoto. It was reassuring to know we were starting to form connections with some of U.A.'s top students.
Suddenly, the door at the front of the room swung open, and in strode Midnight, her usual confident swagger on full display. She walked with purpose, her whip-like gaze scanning the room as she approached the teacher’s desk. The room fell silent almost immediately, the playful chatter replaced with attentive focus.
“Good morning, class,” she said, her voice as silky and commanding as ever. “I hope you’re all ready for a bit of a change of pace today.”
A few curious murmurs rippled through the room, and Gino shot me a questioning glance. I shrugged in response, just as curious about what she had planned.
Midnight’s crimson lips curled into a sly smile. “I know you’ve all been working hard lately, so I’ve decided to mix things up. Today’s lesson won’t be in this classroom.”
The room perked up immediately. Training days were always a favorite, especially when it meant getting out of the lecture hall and doing something hands-on. I glanced over at Gino, who smirked, clearly excited about the prospect of some action.
Midnight’s eyes glinted mischievously as she continued. “Follow me, everyone. Today, we’ll be heading to the holographic training room. It’s a special facility where we can simulate different combat scenarios—perfect for testing your quirks in more dynamic environments.”
The moment she said “holographic training room,” the entire class buzzed with anticipation. We had heard rumors about it but had yet to experience it ourselves. The idea of fighting in a simulated environment that could adapt to anything sounded thrilling.
We all stood from our seats, grabbing our things and following Midnight as she led us out of the classroom. The hallways echoed with the footsteps of eager students, and I couldn’t help but feel my heart race in anticipation. I’d been looking forward to a more intense training session, and this was the perfect opportunity to push myself—and my quirk—further.
As we walked, Midnight explained more about the facility. “The holographic training room uses advanced technology to create realistic battlefields, ranging from urban landscapes to natural disasters. It’s designed to challenge your reflexes and adaptability, testing how well you can control your quirks under pressure.”
We turned a corner, and soon enough, we arrived at a large, reinforced door at the end of the hallway. Midnight pressed a button on a console, and the door slid open with a mechanical hiss, revealing the vast, open space of the holographic training room. The ceiling was high, with a grid of projectors and sensors lining the walls. It was as if we’d stepped into a blank canvas, ready to be transformed into any kind of environment imaginable.
Midnight led us inside, gesturing for the class to gather around her. “Before we get started, I’ll give a brief demonstration of how the room works.” She pressed a button on a small remote, and suddenly, the room shimmered. The walls and floor seemed to dissolve, and in an instant, we were standing in what looked like a dense, urban cityscape—skyscrapers towering above us, streets sprawling out in every direction.
The class gasped in awe. The transformation was seamless, as if we had been teleported to an entirely different place.
“Whoa,” Gino muttered beside me, his eyes wide. “This is insane.”
“Right?” I replied, equally impressed. The level of detail in the simulation was remarkable, down to the reflections on the windows and the sound of distant traffic.
Midnight continued, clearly enjoying our reactions. “This training session will test how well you can navigate complex environments while using your quirks. You’ll be split into teams, and each team will have different objectives to complete. Remember, communication and adaptability are key.”
She glanced around, her gaze sharp. “Any questions before we begin?”
Momo raised her hand. “Will the environments be randomized, or will we know what to expect?”
“Good question,” Midnight said with a nod. “The environments will change dynamically as the session progresses. You won’t know what’s coming next, so be prepared for anything.”
Shoto crossed his arms, looking thoughtful. “And how long will the simulation last?”
“You’ll have about an hour to complete your objectives. But if I see anyone slacking off, I might throw in a few extra surprises,” she said with a wink, causing a few nervous chuckles to ripple through the class.
I exchanged a glance with Gino, feeling the excitement building. This was going to be a real test of our quirks, and I was determined to give it my all. Controlling both fire and thunder in a simulated urban environment would be challenging, especially if the terrain changed on the fly. But I was ready for it.
Midnight clapped her hands, signaling the start. “Alright, get into your teams. We begin in five minutes!”
As the class split off into groups, I found myself grouped with Gino, Momo, and Shoto—quite the powerhouse team. I couldn’t have asked for a better mix of quirks. Gino’s electromagnetism, Momo’s creation ability, Shoto’s half-hot, half-cold, and my Ignatius Tonare. We were ready for anything.
Midnight watched us with a gleam in her eye. “Good luck, everyone. And remember—this is as close to the real thing as it gets.”
With that, the simulation began, and the cityscape around us shifted, the air crackling with the promise of a challenge unlike any we’d faced before.
