IIT-JEE is considered one of the difficult examinations in the world. Only a small fraction of candidates succeeds out of the number of candidates appearing in this exam. The worst part is that hundreds of thousands of students who have been consistently scoring above 90% marks fail to score even 50% in this examination. Toppers generally reach close to 90%. Then, what is wrong with the mass of the brilliant students? Here are common mistakes IIT aspirants make:
Not making Personal Preparation Plan: IIT-JEE questions test the concepts and application capabilities of the student. A student may not be able to score from many topics of the syllabus but still can qualify with good rank. Hence, it is important to decide the level of effort required on various topics by aligning it with your interest and strength. Not having a Personal Preparation Plan and taking such examinations following a generic preparation pattern often result is a common mistake.
Not Paying Attention to Temperament issues: In a tough situation like this, managing pressure becomes a crucial factor. Thousands of students who are participating in this examination are equally good and have similar level of preparation. Becoming nervous, unable to answer the questions that could have been answered with ease, making silly mistakes, forgetting the concepts at key time are some of symptoms of poor temperament control.
Not doing enough self-study: Most of the students join one or more coaching classes. They have to follow the schedule of these classes as well as that of their regular school. They learn the topics by being taught and not by studying. This does not allow mind to think on the topics in original way, which prevent student from practically applying the concept.
