Her

Finally moving out of her old house gave her hope that she could start fresh, all through middle school she never cared for romance, or boys. Going to high school gave her dreams of giggling with close friends and talking about boys. Moving into a new building made her think she could get organized and start planing for the future.

She opened the car door, recalling what the building looked like from her first visit in June just two months ago. The place was all neat and fancy she walked around the drive way grabbing some of the lighter bags. she tread on the clean cement while her older sister lead the way and her younger brother balanced on the curb, tipping over and falling into the bushes that sprouted all the way to the entrance of the tall black building.
After countless signatures from her parents they finally were on the elevator, inching closer to their new home. The family of five began unloading their belongings into the living room of the little home, they were all chatty and excited. She was more anxious than excited. Holding the last of the belongings she tumbled down the hallway. She placed the box down in front of the door looking up to see a boy her age shoved out of the door in front of hers with yelling following him. He looked up from the black hair that covered his eyes "do you need some help with that?" He asked. Who's this? She asked herself "no I'm fine, thanks anyway" she replied. "Did you just move here?" Another question he asked. She paused for a second "um yeah I guess we are neighbors then" she answered "nice to meet you" he raised his hand. Just as she took it to shake the door to her new home opened her mother's head peaking out.

Him

The girl ran into the adjacent property with the box in hand. He silently stood there. For a minute he blanked out. Snaping out of it from the yelling going on the new girls home. He had lived here long enough to know these walls were paper  he couldn't make out much just bit of an arguments. "You're really going to get upset over that" he heard the girls' voice muffled. "Never learn- enough" he made out an older man yell. Realizing that he was eavesdropping he left the building in a rush. His insane mother would calm down in a few hours. He would usually go to the roof for a while, lounge around the the buildings posh gardens, maybe walk to the forest near by watch the stars and think about all the worlds' where life was better. Then remember  that he would return home only to face his anger driven mother. She was kind long ago. The reason he looked to the stars wasn't so he could fit some cliché of loss, but to remember just as the stars move on, one day he will too

Her

It took a few months but she had finally settled In to her home. School was more bleak that she would of liked. She made friends but no memories. Because of the plain of school she started taking photos to give colour to this systematic life. Didn't really work anyway. The often arguments with her father slowly lead her to give up. anytime he would argue and swear she would plainly stare at him and apoligze for what ever bothered him so much he has to take it out on his family. These apologies were never sincere but she was glad she found a set of words that would silence him long enough for her to colour her life again. Many nights she would wake up sit in the gardens and be alone with her thoughts. Some days the thoughts were happy more often then not they were very sad. Regardless she liked having her little bubble of "me" time. The colour would continue to fade. So one of the longer nights she kept one colour permanently. She chose green she coloured her hair. This little act kept her happy for a long enough time.

Him

She would get up and scold him all the time lately she began to wake him at night just to yell at him some more. He loved his mother. So for both of their sakes when he ran out of the house this time he only ran to the garden. He knew better than to run to the dark forest at night, as this cycle began to form he pushed his focus to other people. It wasn't easy you can't foucus on other people when you have no friends and then people you ride the elevator with stand in the corner and fibble with their phones for the long long 30 seconds. He started crossing off his options from the list of ways to keep coming home.

Them

He had one of his longer nights, she need more time for her self today. They both sulked to the gardens tonight.

Her

She was getting quite tired on the bench of the gardens the night was cold. She heard noises close by. Like foot steps. She was too tired to care tonight. The foot steps slowly became feet then a form. The form turned and sat on the bench beside her. She jumped in her seat "who's there?" She asked "what?" He asked back. They had both remembered who was who. "Oh, hi" she said "hello. What are you doing here? It is 4 am you know" he started "couldn't sleep. Rarely ever can, not comfterbly anyway. What about you?" She answered trying to start a conversation "well I was chasing a butterfly then I woke up and decided fresh air was better than sleep" he replied "um OK" she said "no my mom thought she better yell at me at night that way she has more time to yell at me in the morning" he says "oh yeah I hear that from time to time" she goes on "yeah I can hear your dad too by the way"

"Well after 15 years your learn to block it out"

"What would he yell about though you seem like a regular teen?"

"Yeah well in my family I'm a whore for shaking hands, you seem like a regular teen too? So what is it?"

"Well you know soda is from Satan so things are not very quiet at home. But seriously a whore? That skirt your wearing right now is longer than a nuns"

She laughs "well an example, I made my hair green and I was the worst child ever, so you know"

"Yeah I get it but that green hair looks cool"

"What about your hair?"

"My hair?"

"Yeah looks like you cut it"

"How could you notice that? We've only met once before"

"I don't know.. Well?"

"Oh um apparently long hair makes me look like a druggie so I had to 'fix it'"

"Oh thats too bad I thought it looked pretty cool" she said before getting up
"OK well good night then" she said and walked away.

"Goodnight" he said

Them

They had both never spoke again but that didn't matter. After that conversation she always kept her hair green and he always kept his hair long, she had the colour in her life and he moved along like the stars. This isn't an important conversation or meeting its not even  barely romantic its just trying to show that if you meet some one don't be afraid to talk you never know which conversation will effect you the most. Even the conversation you have with your neighbor at 4 am about your green hair.
