Chapter four: school
I wake up the next morning to the sharp blare of my alarm. I groan, pushing the covers off and stretching.
Ow, fuck.
The familiar shooting pain jolts through my legs as my healing cuts pull and crack. I sit up carefully, rubbing my eyes, the weight of last night still heavy on my chest.
After forcing myself through the usual routine—changing, dressing, packing my bag—I head out to catch the bus. As always, it's just me at the stop, scrolling through Pinterest and Snapchat while I wait. Minutes tick by, but still no bus. Typical.
I sigh and start fiddling with my hair, pulling it into a ponytail, then braiding it into two. Anything to pass the time.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spot a guy crossing the street. He's wearing our school uniform, but I don't recognize him. His hair's this perfectly messy brown, like it's styled that way without trying too hard. His eyes are bright and warm, kind of a honey-amber shade. Definitely attractive, and you can tell he knows it.
As he gets closer, he waves, a huge grin spreading across his face. I wave back, mostly out of instinct. Despite whatever impression you've got of me, I'm not a total bitch.
"Hey!" he calls out, practically bouncing as he reaches the stop. "I thought I'd be the only one here."
I raise an eyebrow. "You new?"
"Yeah! Just moved here. I'm Javi." He sticks out his hand, like he's been waiting his whole life to introduce himself.
"Maeve." I shake his hand, mostly because I can't think of a reason not to. His energy's kind of infectious, like he's bursting with excitement about everything.
"So," Javi says, swinging his bag over his shoulder, "what's the deal with this bus? It's late, right? Please tell me it's not always like this."
"Always," I reply, half-smirking. "Better get used to it."
He laughs, this bright, easy sound, and I can already tell he's the kind of guy people flock to. The girls are going to be all over him, no doubt. But me? I don't care. I can already tell Javi is going to be one of those people who talks to everyone and makes friends in a heartbeat.
"So, what's your deal?" he asks, tilting his head at me. "You seem... I don't know, chill but mysterious. Like the girl people write songs about."
I blink, caught off guard. "Uh, yeah I don't know everyone hates me?"
"Well, then you're perfect," he says, grinning wider. "I was hoping to meet someone cool and dangerous on my first day."
That makes me laugh, like actually laugh. I don't know how long its been since I've had a good laugh. "I am not either of those but whatever I guess....and you? You seem like the type of guy who write the songs, the hot band leader all the girls adore"
"Well unfortunately for girls, I'm not into them... I know what you're thinking. Yes, I feel it too, I could have been pulling so many girls" We chuckle "but the band parts true...I love guitar and drums and singing"
"I sing too!"
"Ahhh! Ive figured you all out. You're that smart at everything type aren't you? Never gets into trouble and has like perfect basically white parents."
"Not even close" I smirk
1 year later...
HEY its the Author! Read this for context!
What you've read so far was all for some context into Maeve's life. As you can tell it is very fucked up :). but the rest is going to be from changing perspectives.
In the three months here's whats happened:
Maeve has stopped being friends with Lily completely. Lily is heartbroken over it but refuses to change. Maeve gets close with a girl named Judy and Javi.
Javi is like this heartthrob- and flirt you could say- but he is so very caring (weird but theres no other way of saying it- hes the 'mother' of the trio). and he doesn't date. He plays guitar and piano and is in a band. hes the lead vocalist. He's a different type of hot, the one with black nail polish and messed up hair, not muscly not skinny, the just right in between. I love Javi and writing about his character is going to be so fun! He is raised by a single mum and she is the sweetest! You'll meet her.
Judy is probably like my favourite character. She is inspired by Tori and is alot like her except with blue eyes and blonde hair and probably a bit taller? She's like super low energy and kinda weird and has this like doesn't-give-a-fuck clothing style, which i adore. She is the middle child (has an older brother and younger sister) and her parents are just standard doesnt care too much or tooo less type. I love her younger sister tho, she has so much attitude.
Maeve is well... hard to explain. On the surface she's funny, rebellious, beautiful, good at sport, music and academics and actually pretty selfless. But there's so much more to her(not in a good way). She self harms, smokes, has alchohol, does angry scrapbooking, has horrid parents is honestly broken. It took her SO long to even start to trust Javi and Judy but now they're as thick as theives.
And they love each other so much.
