Heyo! So here we have a nice fic to further celebrate my investment in this! Juicy things happen here, some surprise Trek and Eron don't expect at all. It's a bit short, but it's structured in 2 parts, so you'll get the second part just as shortly (and boyyyyyy let me tell you that WILL be long).
Enjoyyyyy ♡♡

Aaaah, nothing beats the freshness and familiarity of dear motherland, long thick clouds often wrapped around tall skyscrapers, as it's usual for a house in Wind State after all, the pleasant sound of the wind whistling through the skyscrapers, the best and oldest method to lull children to sleep. Nothing beats a nice cool shower with the water ranked the coolest of all Gorm, fresh and landscaped springs rising from the mountains up North, the typical place for every tourist that wants a breathtaking view, the border with the Ice Kingdom evident in the breezy air; After all, Ice Season* is near.
And that's exactly what Eron does once he sets foot in his house, his mom stealing a big cheek smooch off on the way to the bathroom; a speaker playing rave music at full power, and his mental and spiritual energy is clear again, ready to face whatever his mom is about to throw at him. From messages that have left him confused asking him to come home because she has a surprise for him, to the fact that he's not completely home yet and apparently they are going on a trip for the weekend. Something about a well-deserved break and getting to know someone... so he spent these 3 days at home packing his bags, visiting some old friends in town, eating homemade food, making new music... the usual. Not that, being usual, it's also banal; he grew up like this, and it makes him very happy to be in the environment of his home, of his State, just enjoying the fresh air and the view -when there aren't storms- from the top of the skyscrapers.
Now it's Monday morning, everything is packed, and both homeowners are at the door, mom Zephyra ready to lock the place with her house keys in hand. He doesn't know why, but Eron has a strange feeling about everything. Not good, not bad, just... strange. His mother is also strange, all excited, happy and carefree. He hasn't seen her so happy since his father was still around and, well, during all the important milestones in his life, graduation and everything. Who knows what she is up to, to also request the presence of her son for whatever little vacation she wants to do. His mom was always a carefree person, and the father who left them, for whatever reason, did not diminish her essence; she continued to take care of Eron and the house as if they were still all three, living anyway she wanted, buying what she wanted and meeting who she wanted, while still taking the best care of her son, her proudest achievement as a parent and his proudest achievement as a mom. If there's one thing, apart from his big blue eyes, that he has inherited from her, it's the ability to have fun in every place and lift everyone's spirits in the worst of situations, this is actually how his parents met. Eron doesn't think about his father often, especially because there is not much to remember and what's to be remembered is bad or unimportant. He never made a real difference as a person, pretending he didn't have a family. It's true that all the people of the Wind State are a bit with their head on the clouds, but they are also very loyal. Perhaps that is why he fled so many years ago, he did not have that essential quality.
They close that small but cozy place that has been their home as long as he can remember, and turns to one of the 3 lifts ready to be called and used in front of them, Eron calling one of them with the appropriate press of a button. Fun fact, in addition to the most scenic and drinkable water of Gorm located here, the elevators in the Wind State are one of the best in the country, efficient, light and, above all, as fast as the winds that hit the northern mountains during a full storm. And it is as fast as lightning falling to the ground, when the elevator quickly pushes them out with a ding!, and its doors open.
"By the way, I still don't know where we are going." Eron huffs, dragging his suitcase to the exit of their house. "And why are we bringing all this stuff with us?"
"It's just a trip, baby!" Zephyra replies sweetly to him, hand gesturing for the car parked not too far away.
"It looks like a trip to the other side of the world!" He protests, huffing once again. Baggage bags behind, in the back seats, and family to the front.
"You could say that..." Zephyra, in the pilot seat, ponders while she fastens her seatbelt.
"Hey!" He throws an accusatory finger at her. "What is that supposed to mean???"
He doesn't receive an answer as the car roars to life, and they spring to this unknown direction, much to Eron's chagrin.
On the trip South, he finds himself wandering, his ever present and ever trusted headphones giving a rhythm to his thought and his eyes looking at the familiar clouds on top of him, one of the moons peeking out even in daylight. Meeting someone...could it be that she found someone? But that will change a lot of things...will he still get to live here in the Wind State? What's he thinking, maybe it is someone from here. But then why would they have to go this far just to meet this someone? And will things go well with this one person she's meeting? If things weren't going well, he probably would have never met them. A half punch to his shoulder from his mom, and he's catapulted right back to reality, spending the rest of the trip not caring too much about it and enjoying some old-fashioned radio music blasting in the car.
Changing scenery, Trek looks outside his window, the immense desertic canyons welcoming his eyes; not many people are housed this far into the desert, but there's a lot more people at the borders, where the vegetation is a bit more luscious. The specific desert portion where he lives has only 7 houses, not much, but enough for him. He shifts his eyes on the right towards a very familiar house with white bricks and a red roof, the house hosting Siran's family and, once, Siran herself before she moved to the capital to pursue her studies professionally. Not many know that, but that's how they met: they were neighbors, those big canyons welcoming his eyes every time he woke up were basically their playground. That's how Trek learned to distinguish every kind of rock, by aspect and composition, and how Siran learned to gem hunt. And he just now realizes he's been infatuated by her all this time, to miss terribly her presence now that they're far away. Probably because of a good wave of shyness from both of them, they haven't yet met after officially entering this new relationship. Or probably because he's, how would Riff put it, a dumbass.
But enough of that right now; his dad organized a trip for both of them, a chance to relax with some great sloggus in one of the oasis up north, confining with the wind realm. But something tells Trek that there's much more than that to it, his father hasn't stopped once cooking industrial quantities of food for their 'relaxing getaway' and doesn't plan to stop humming happily either. He hasn't been that happy since his mother died a few years back. Who knows, maybe he found someone new again? Trek's happy for his father, nothing more. Since his mom died it has been hard for both of them. Cray immersed himself in work, spending very few moments with his son for a while, and Trek had his own piece of anguish to sort out, mostly by himself...until something changed a few years ago that made them both reconcile and get through the grief together.
He now turns to look at his room, his travel backpack ready to go, sitting quietly in a corner. His eyes shift to the door as someone knocks on it, his dad's head peeking through.
"Hey, champ! Ready to go?" Cray greets his son with a small smile.
"Yeah, just about..." He walks over to the backpack, taking it and going towards his dad, waiting by the door. "...now."
"Perfect! Then let's go."
"Where to, by the way? You told me up North, but..."
"It's a little surprise, and you've got another one waiting for you once we arrive."
"All right, all right..." Trek mutters, putting on his baseball cap and getting out of the house, bracing himself for what's about to happen.
Everything is finally clear once Eron and Trek meet. At the same identical cottage. At the same freaking time.
"Surprise!" Both their parents chant in unison. They look at them, his arm wrapping up her shoulders, then slowly turn to look back at each other.
Cliffhanger, huh? :)
