The Kitakami forest was unnaturally still today. The trees are as green as emeralds, swishing slightly to the silent music of the breeze, making some of the charms tied to its branches tinkle in the wind. The cobbled path with moss lightly dusting its surface felt a little less welcoming and the stream that snaked its way through the forest seemed a little greyer than usual. Despite this, however, the little girl who walked the small footpath still hummed happily as she held her small school bag which concealed a drawing pad and pencil case. Just peeking out of the bag was a small white rabbit plush with a jade green ribbon around its neck.
As the young girl turned a corner, she weaved in and out through the trees, focused on finding the place where she and her friend would often meet up. She then smiled when she found a red ribbon tied to a low-hanging branch. Not far behind it was another red ribbon and another just behind that, making a chain to guide the girl to her destination.
"See, Jade" the little girl smiled as she turned and spoke to the rabbit plush "I told you putting the ribbons up was a good idea! Let's go, she's probably waiting for us".
The little girl then followed the path of red ribbons, taking precautions to make sure she didn't lose the trail and get lost. As she walked on, however, she didn't see the long metal fingers slip away from a large tree trunk, nor the giant shadow darted between the trees. all the girl focused on was that she'd finally found the cave opening where her friend lived. As she entered, she made sure not to disturb the shimenawa and uttered a prayer for forgiveness before walking forward.
"Himiko!"
the girl perked up upon hearing her friend's voice, not seeming to notice the urgency in it. she then turned and gave a polite bow to her friend.
"I'm very sorry for being late. I had to help my father clean the ramen shop, and then I had to help my mother and grandmother with household chores and before I knew it, I lost track of time. I'm happy to see you again."
Himiko then smiled at her friend, only to see that she wore an expression of shock and fear. her eyes were lasered focused on something that seemed to be behind her. then suddenly, she pulled out her weapon and screamed only one word.
"RUN!"
Himiko, feeling scarednow, turned around and saw what her friend had been so scared of. right behind her was a giant robot with a screen for a face and coloured black and purple. Even though this thing had no visible eyes, she could tell he was looking directly at her.
..... and she let out a scream.
