Mia stood at her window, paintbrush in hand, staring out at the bustling city below. The vibrant lights blurred into a sea of color, but all she felt was the heaviness of homesickness weighing on her chest. It had been months since she left her small town, and while the city promised endless possibilities, it often felt like a lonely maze.

She set her brush down and glanced at the half-finished canvas on her easel. It depicted the sprawling fields of her hometown, a place where she could breathe freely, surrounded by friends who understood her. But now, every stroke felt like an echo of a life she couldn't quite grasp.

The gentle buzz of her phone pulled her from her thoughts. A message from her best friend, Sarah, flickered across the screen: Miss you! Remember that spot by the river? Let's go back together someday.

Mia's heart ached at the memory. The riverbank had been their sanctuary, a place of laughter and dreams shared under the open sky. She typed a quick response, but before she could hit send, a sudden chill enveloped the room, making her shiver.

Confused, she looked around. The air felt charged, almost electric. As she turned back to her canvas, something strange happened—a flicker of light danced across the surface, drawing her gaze. Before she could react, the paint shimmered and shifted, revealing an image she couldn't comprehend: a girl with dark hair standing by a familiar riverbank, a soft smile on her lips.

Mia blinked, her heart racing. "What...?" she murmured, stepping closer. Just then, a blinding flash enveloped her, and the world around her dissolved into darkness.
