Charu sat cross-legged on the worn but cozy carpet of the two-bedroom apartment’s drawing hall, the soft light from the lamps casting a warm glow across her face. Beside her, Krish, Aaryan, and Kiara sat in a tight circle, each of them leaning in with expressions of anticipation and pride. In front of Charu lay a neatly folded letter of confirmation for her second-round interview at Pinnacle Legal, and next to it, a thick stack of papers—the non-disclosure agreement.
Charu picked up the confirmation letter again, the sight of her name printed next to “Congratulations” filling her with renewed excitement. But as her eyes drifted over to the NDA, a hint of unease crept into her expression. Without saying a word, Krish picked up the document, scanning through the text with furrowed brows.
“This is… different,” he muttered, leaning closer to the page. “They’re basically asking you to agree that you’ll never, in any way, reveal details of the firm’s heads.”
Charu looked at him with a puzzled expression. “Doesn’t every big firm have rules about confidentiality?”
“Sure,” Krish replied, glancing up from the document, “but this goes way beyond that. It’s saying that if you even mention the identities of the heads—ever—the firm has the right to sue you for defamation and take you to court. They’re serious about keeping themselves anonymous.”
Aaryan, who had been peering over Krish’s shoulder, raised an eyebrow. “That’s pretty intense. Why all the secrecy around the heads of a law firm?”
Charu shrugged, a small smile spreading across her face. “Maybe they’re just really private. Or maybe it’s a way to ensure employees stay loyal and don’t spill any insider information.”
“Still…” Kiara added, looking at the papers with mild suspicion, “it’s a bit weird. But hey, if it means you’re starting fresh, then who cares, right?”
Charu nodded, a flicker of excitement dancing in her eyes. “Exactly! This is my chance to finally make something of myself. And with a second-round interview? I think I can do it this time. I want to prove myself, not just to everyone but for Armaan Bhaiya and Abhira Bhabhi too.” Her voice softened as she looked at a nearby photo frame of Armaan and Abhira, their supportive smiles captured perfectly in the picture.
The others glanced at each other before Kiara gave Charu a gentle nudge, grinning. “Then that’s all that matters. We’re here to celebrate you!”
Aaryan leapt up, grabbing a bag of chips from the kitchen while Krish grabbed a can of soda and popped it open with a small whoop. The air filled with laughter as they handed Charu a drink and clinked their cans together.
“To Charu!” Krish declared, raising his can high.
“To a fresh start!” Kiara added, her eyes shining.
Charu laughed, her heart swelling with happiness as she joined them. “To making you all proud,” she said, lifting her glass with a broad smile.
In that moment, surrounded by the people who knew her best, Charu felt a new wave of determination settle in her chest. Whatever challenges lay ahead, she knew she had the love and support of her family with her every step of the way.
Charu filled in the non-disclosure agreement carefully, her pen gliding across the paper as she finalized her decision. She’d read through each line, but every word only solidified her resolve to step forward. This was her moment—one she wasn’t going to let slip away.
As she tucked the NDA back into its envelope, a spirited debate broke out behind her in the living room. Krish, Aaryan, and Kiara were in a heated discussion about which pizza flavors to order, each one stubbornly defending their favorite toppings.
