"You did what?" Lux's mouth hangs wide open, rising up to her seat after her manicure. I sit across her sipping on the mocktail she had ordered after my arrival at the salon.

She mouths a 'thank you' to the woman who did her nails before switching up to her aggressive bearing to the confession. "You're telling me you're blowing off Harry Styles? And you're sober?" she sounds more offended than I imagine Harry would be. Only if he knew that I plan to ghost him. If that's anywhere near possible. But it'll hurt more not to try.

"Wow. I expected more from you." I attempt at a snide remark to pry her real insight about the situation, but as far as a hint of approval goes, she is nowhere near rewarding me my well-deserved thumbs up. She's more inclined to this environment so I guess I expected Lux to tell me to quit or something instead I get a questionable look. "Angelina Jolie would jump him if she could. She still probably bones—"

"Lux!"

"I'm just saying. I met the guy. I've heard the stories." She lowers her eyes, looking at the floor like a script to read.

"Then you know his reputation."

"But not his story. I frantically raised you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I frown in amusement. "It isn't like you to close a book without reading it."

"I know Jace was an asshole." My ears ring at the mention of his name which Lux takes notice of, "But you have to open up." I don't understand why she's been pushing this since we arrived London but something tells me that she's rather worried than anticipating. I follow her patiently to the parking lot, joining her into her new car. "I'm fine, Lux. I swear by Gared."

"Oh, love." she revs the engine. "I know you are. But are you kidding me?" I set my back down and watch her pull out the driveway. "We're in London. You've finally started your internship. You have a popstar royalty blowing up your phone, for fuck's sake!" feels like she's been holding the latter in all afternoon.

"He's just another lost head swimming in the ocean of fame. And you know it."

"Yeah— but he also happens to be incredibly hot— and into you— have you seen the way he looks at you? James has been pulling strings to get by because he can't keep his head on his shoulders."

"Apparently so. He's jeopardizing my work, too." I recoil, hugging my chest in search for warmth. Lux notices this and rolls my window down. We wait at the last stoplight that's beside Fuji House. It catches me off-guard, stretching a wide smile on my face. "I think you're just scared he'd get into your head." We share a knowing glance.

"And that perhaps, he already has."

The clock reads 8:28 PM. I pace into the kitchen to prop the grocery bags down and organize them into the pantry. I hear a faint meow between my feet that gradually becomes louder. "We should share this. What do you think, girl?" I ask, preparing her meal. She's having Tiki Cat tonight. It reminds me that I have forgotten to pick up some takeout for myself.
