One of the waitresses walks over to the table, giving us a nasty look. "I think it might be time for us to leave" I say, looking at Conan. He lets out a little laugh before nodding in agreement, and we both stand up and walk towards the door. "Hey wait-" he says after we walk out the door. I turn to face him with questioning eyes.
"Do you wanna...uh...come to my place for a bit?" he says, looking down. I walk closer to him and smile. "That would be amazing" I say. Looking relieved, he reaches out his hand towards me and I graciously take it.
We walk hand in hand down the streets, looking at each other every so often. After we finally arrive at a beautiful looking house, he stops, then gets out a pair of keys to unlock the door. "Wow-" I let out as he opens it. It was beautiful in here, the smell of coffee mixed with some sort of candle, the sunlight entering from different windows, and all of the plants scattered around in different places.
As we walked forward I looked around to see his beautiful brown piano next to a very new, shiny looking guitar. There were mugs scattered around everywhere, some empty, some half full. I don't know what it was about it, but this whole place made me feel so...safe.
"What do you think?" he says. I turn towards him in awe. "It's beautiful" I whisper. "I'm glad you like it". He walks towards the couch in the middle of the room as I follow behind him, my hand still in his. He motions for me to sit down so I do.
He walks over and grabs three mugs off of the coffee table, clearly embarrassed by them. When he comes back into the room, I look up at him. "Will you sing for me?" He stands there for a second, just looking at me. Then he laughs. "No, you don't wanna hear me sing. Why don't we do something where you're not just watching me? You'll get bored, and then you'll think I'm more annoying than you already do" he answers.
"I don't think you're annoying" I say, looking into his eyes. "Please? I really want to hear you sing. I won't get bored. I just want to hear your voice." I look at him with pleading eyes. "Alright then, if you really want to" I nod my head in response and he goes to pick up his guitar.
He sits down on the floor in front of me and carefully takes out a capo and guitar pick. "So...what do you want to hear?" he says. "Do you write any?" I can feel the shift in the room when I say this, and he avoids my gaze. "Uh...a little" he replies. "Will you play me something you've written? Only if you're comfortable of course" I say, giving him a warm smile.
He looks up at me, returning the smile. "Sure" As he flips through the pages of his book, he considers each song carefully before finally stopping on a page. "Here. This songs called Holidays". He picks up his guitar and begins to play a beautiful melody, carefully plucking each string.
As he sings the first line, it immediately becomes hard for me to focus on the words. He had the voice of an angel. Every note, every line...it sounded perfect. I could listen to him for hours, days. As I listen closer to the lyrics I can tell it's a song about growing up, about someone he's close to maybe.
He strums the final chords of the song after playing the rest of it, then sets down his guitar. I stare at him. "Was it that bad?" he says through a small laugh. "NO, no...I...you-" I can hardly finish a sentence. "That was amazing. The lyrics were so meaningful and poetic...and your voice...oh my gosh" I whisper in awe. "Thank you" he says, still not taking my words as seriously as I mean them.
"Really, that was incredible" I say. He puts his guitar away, walking towards the couch. He sits down next to me and takes my hand as he turns on the TV, asking me what I want to watch. "I don't care, whatever you want to" I say with a smile. He turns on Gilmore Girls. Yeah, that makes sense.
I open my eyes, trying to remember where I am. I put the pieces together, turning to see that I'm leaning against Conan with my arms wrapped around him. "OH MY GOSH" I say, immediately pulling back from him as I feel the blush creep into my cheeks. "I am SO sorry...I didn't mean to...ugh I'm sorry" I say frantically, trying to look away so he won't see me blushing.
He lets out a small giggle, then wraps his arms around my torso pulling me back towards him. I can't help but join him in laughter, before realizing how dark it was. "Gosh what time is it?" I ask. He looks at his phone. "11:45"
"PM?" I say, jolting up to grab my phone. "Oh my gosh-" I say getting up. I can't walk home this late. What am I gonna do? "It's too late for you to walk home" he says as if reading my mind. "You can just stay here"
I turn to look at him with a small smile. "You don't have to...I don't wanna...are you sure-" I stutter. He nods, giving me a reassuring smile. After that, he makes us both some hot chocolate and we sit back down on the couch to watch more TV.
My cup being empty, I set it on the coffee table and lean into him underneath the blanket. I shiver slightly. "You cold?" he asks with a small laugh. I nod, and then feel his arms around me. The warmth radiating off of him felt so nice and so comforting. I rest my head against his shoulder, and he pulls me in tight to him. I want this moment to last forever.
